Amazon Web Services is looking for a Technical Infrastructure Program Manager to support and deploy one of the world’s largest and most complex telecommunication networks. The role travels on-site to locations throughout the United States to drive critical fiber deployment activities. These activities include fiber characterization, circuit troubleshooting, vendor management, stakeholder communication, data validation, oversight of quality control systems, pre/post-inspections for design validation and ultimately ensuring the on-time delivery of viable fiber. You will be working in the field to drive critical fiber deployment activities.
This opportunity is on the Fiber Deployment team that is within the Global Connectivity Infrastructure Development - GCID - organization, which is responsible for planning, developing, and acquiring the physical network solutions that drive Amazon’s internal infrastructure and connect our services to the world.
Job expects travel up to 90% of the year to support field operations.
Key job responsibilities
Field experience resolving ISP and OSP issues. Fiber characterization experience operating OTDRs and scopes to resolve issues with panels, jumpers and connectors. Technical skills of either, process engineering, construction management, transport equipment, and quality control systems is required.
• Reports to the Long-Haul Fiber Deployment Manager, and updates regularly with Fiber Deployment leadership through standardized reporting mechanisms
• Serve as a key member of the GCID - Fiber Deployment team helping to drive overall Network Infrastructure strategy for long-haul circuits
• Subject matter expert for fiber characterization in the field
• Subject matter expert in telecom network turn-up; has experience troubleshooting DWDM transmissions systems and the associated dark fiber
• Interface with key internal stakeholders (e.g. Networking, Data Center Engineering, Technical Project Managers, Data Center Management, Security, Backbone) to obtain their requirements and drive vendors to adhere to key business requirements.
• Develop a quality management program that tracks defects, mitigates risks, standardizes root cause analysis, and implements key performance measures to rate vendor success
• Understand the technical fiber requirements of our engineering teams and ensure the completed project meets these requirements
• Understand the technical components for the hardware and network connectivity to deploy a long-haul network with outside plant, Inline Amplifiers (ILA’s) and the power and security needs to light the network
• Determining the DC/AC power supply (N+1, N+2, N+), regional power cord specifications, grounding requirements
• Physically audit completed construction work, review fiber test results, inspect ILAs and hand-off completed delivery to internal customers
A day in the life
During the week this role is continually in the field, deployed to locations throughout the United States driving critical activities for long haul fiber deployment. The candidate travels to prioritized locations to work independently, with vendors and with other AWS builders to resolve roadblocks to lighting dark fiber. The candidate dives into the details to understand the true blockers and works to resolve them, reporting results clearly to stakeholders through documents and databases. Physical inspections and knowledge of technical standards for outside and inside fiber plant is required, with a strong emphasis on fiber characterization - OTDR, PMD, CMD, ILA hardware requirements and quality inspections.

Qualifications
• 3+ Outside plant fiber deployment experience• 3+ Inside plant fiber deployment experience
• 3+ Telecom circuit deployment and troubleshooting in the field
• Knowledge of optical transmissions systems
Extended Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in project management, engineering or business administration preferred- Understanding of long-haul optical transmission systems
- Understanding of GIS platforms
- Experience with Salesforce or other project management software
- Splicing experience
- Fiber testing certification (CFCE or equivalent)
- Fiber characterization certification (CONA, CONE or equivalent)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $85,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
