Description

Amazon Leo is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Amazon Leo will serve a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.

The Design Verification Engineer will be a member of the Avionics team, focusing on the design verification of the various electrical functions of high-performance communication systems.

They will ensure proper data collection and review, and demonstrate the system requirement verification.

In this role, they will be responsible for developing Test SW (Python scripts) to test proprietary hardware. The scripts will interact with standard lab test equipment, execute automated functional checkout tests, analyze pass/fail criteria, and generate comprehensive test reports.

They will be part of a multidisciplinary avionics design team and will work closely with PCBA design engineers, harness engineers, FPGA and embedded SW developers as well as system and integration engineers.

Key job responsibilities

We are looking for an exceptional engineer who possesses superb technical and analytical skills and has a proven track record of getting things done quickly and effectively.

Automated Functional Testing: Develop test sequences that perform automated functional checkout tests on proprietary hardware to ensure reliability and performance.

Data Analysis: Implement algorithms to analyze test data, compare results against predefined pass/fail criteria, and provide insights into the hardware's performance.

Report Generation: Generate detailed test reports that summarize test results, including pass/fail status, and provide valuable information to the broader team.

They will own and manage comprehensive test procedures and execute board-level test plans. They will collect test data, perform data analysis, and document results.

They will also conduct test readiness reviews and collaborate with various stakeholders on data review activities.

They will work with a team of top-notch engineers and influence the overall test strategy by helping to define system test requirements.

You should be comfortable with a high degree of autonomy and relish the idea of solving problems that haven't been solved at scale before.

You are expected to maintain requirements traceability during testing and solve integration and test problems in real time.

A day in the life

You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams at Amazon in different locations. In this role, you will be a member of the Hardware Test, Verification, and Validation Team with responsibilities for developing hardware tests and test automation for validation of various avionics systems. This is a cross-functional role requiring constant interaction with multiple HW/SW design teams and end-users.



Qualifications

- Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume

- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field

- 3+ years of experience coding under Python and C/C++

- Good understanding of Electrical Engineering (EE) and testing fundamentals

- 3+ years of experience in board-level design verification for aerospace, automotive, or consumer electronics products OR 3+ years of experience building test fixtures and complex test systems, including integrating test software

- 3+ years of experience developing requirements, plans, and procedures for product design verification

- Experience using standard electronic lab test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes and multimeters).



Extended Qualifications

- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills

- Ability to coordinate with the engineering and test lab teams and schedule testing resources

- Experience with test plans and protocols related to established space hardware testing processes

- Experience with hardware and software tools for test automation (e.g., NI, Python, C/C++, and LabVIEW)

- Experience with power supplies, field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), sensors, and high-speed electrical signal characterization (I2C, SPI, and CANFD)

- Experience designing or testing circuit boards with complex microcontrollers, system-on-chips (SoCs), or field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).

- Experience with the design verification of high-speed interfaces, signal integrity, and protocol compliance

- Experience developing automated test systems

- Experience reviewing requirements to support various test phases

- Experience as a technical lead, directing small teams of test engineers on multiple designs

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
