Description

The Amazon Web Services Professional Services (ProServe) team is seeking a senior database specialist with expertise in both commercial and open-source database systems. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with Oracle or SQL Server platforms, as well as open-source databases including PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, or Casandra. You should have a proven track record in database migration projects, moving applications between different database engines. The role involves collaborating with senior leadership to identify and implement IT platform and infrastructure optimizations. You will tackle complex, high-scale data challenges and contribute to the development of cutting-edge platform technologies. This position offers the opportunity to help organizations leverage cloud computing web services, enabling them to innovate faster, securely and cost-effectively. A Senior Database Consultant in AWS ProServe works directly with enterprise customers to design, implement, and optimize database solutions across AWS's portfolio of database services. This role combines deep technical expertise with consulting skills to help customers achieve their business objectives through database modernization and migration initiatives. You will collaborate with our customers and partners on key engagements and will develop and deliver proof-of-concept projects, technical workshops, and support implementation projects in order to migrate customer environments to AWS cloud based database platforms. Our professional services engagements will focus on customer solutions such as high volume mission critical OLTP/OLAP environments, batch data processing, designing and deploying future state petabyte-scale data warehouse service and building and/or designing reference configurations to enable our customers and influence AWS RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB and Redshift adoption. The databases team provides direct to customer, back office and packaged delivery consulting services to customers remotely from a centralized location. Our consultants are builders and deliver projects, technical workshops, and lead implementation projects with customers around the globe. These professional services engagements focus on customer solutions such as, web applications, enterprise applications, high performance computing, batch processing, big data, archiving, disaster recovery, migration, security risk and compliance.

Key job responsibilities

As an experienced technology professional, you will be responsible for:

1.Lead complex database migration and modernization projects for enterprise customers.

2.Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance for database solutions using AWS services like Amazon RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, DocumentDB, OpenSearch, Neptune, Redshift, and other AWS database offerings.

3.Design and implement high-availability, disaster recovery, and performance optimization solutions.

4.Conduct database assessments and provide recommendations for improvement.

5.Develop migration strategies and execute complex database migrations.

6.Create technical documentation and delivery artifacts.

7.Mentor junior consultants and contribute to building AWS database best practices.

8.Work closely with customer teams to transfer knowledge and build their capabilities. This is a customer-facing role with potential travel to customer sites as needed

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience

- 5+ years of hands-on experience implementing AWS services (EC2, ELB, RDS, Route53 & S3) in distributed computing environments

- 5+ years of hands-on experience administering at least one commercial relational database (Oracle, SQL Server, or IBM Db2) OR open-source database (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB)

- 5+ years of hands-on experience implementing non-relational databases such as MongoDB, CouchDB, or Redis



Extended Qualifications

- AWS experience preferred, with proficiency in a wide range of AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, IAM, VPC, CloudFormation)

- AWS Professional level certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect Professional, DevOps Engineer Professional) preferred

- Experience with automation and scripting (e.g., Terraform, Python)

- Knowledge of security and compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR)

- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $138,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $239,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
