Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Sr. Regional Design Manager to join its design team. As a Sr. Regional Design Manager, you will be part of a global engineering leadership team, comprised of highly effective Architects, Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Security and Control Engineers. AWS self-performs engineering on the majority of our capacity delivery projects. This unique vantage point allows the Design Managers to maintain a close connection with project details and drive project outcomes. You will have impact on the design direction and ability to improve design delivery for an entire region, while establishing design procedures and protocols for the development of future systems. Key job responsibilities
• Lead project teams of discipline leads to deliver quality and globally consistent data center designs across Americas within schedule and cost constraints while maintaining a high level of quality.
• Able to influence internal stakeholders, internal customers (operations), and external consultants to address program wide design changes
• Manage escalations from the design team and collaborate with procurement, construction and external consultants
• Identification of disciplines impacted in design issues to drive cross-disciplinary design decisions
• Understanding of design development, design change management, permitting (working with AHJs), and implementation (working with CMs/RFIs/Submittals) lifecycle
• Project management skills (critical path schedule management, risk management, quality management, cost management)
• Design consultant management including procurement, contracting, deliverable management, and payments
• Effectively and consistently communicate with AWS Leadership and external project partners, including the creation, tracking & reporting of metrics related to schedule, cost, and quality Throughout the lifecycle of the project.
• Think outside of the box to find innovative solutions prior to and during the construction process to reduce contract change orders without negative impacts on quality or reliability.
• Ability to prioritize between competing priorities and create robust resolution frameworks when facing ambiguity
• Drive speed, quality, and simplification by eliminating rework loops, reducing and automating manual work and hand-offs, identifying and implementing best practices across the business, and minimizing process variability through standardization and automation.
• Create global best practice documentation and facilitate sharing across the globe.
• Ability to motivate others to achieve impeccable quality in an explosive growth and deadline-driven environment.
• Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and interfacing with design consultants. Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%. International travel may be needed.

Qualifications
- 6+ years experience managing staff / consultants / vendors- 6+ years of design experience in commercial / industrial / other complex technical projects.
- 7+ years of large scale Mission Critical facility design experience.
- 5+ years leading sub-consultants and project teams.
- Bachelor or Master’s degree (MBA, Engineering, Architecture, Construction)
Extended Qualifications
- Professional Engineering/Architecture License- 3+ years of large-scale Data Center facility design experience.
- 10+ years of experience directly related to data center design, construction, operations, and/or facility maintenance.
- Ability to communicate complex technical issues to senior leadership or non-engineers, develop basic business case financial projections and create performance metrics
- Direct experience in negotiating with regulatory agencies regarding departures from building code and construction change orders

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
