We are looking for an experienced Data Scientist (DS) to help design, build, and develop big impact features that improve customer experience. This leader will solve complex problems in one of the fastest growing segments of the Retail business, Fashion and Fitness (Apparel, Shoes, Jewelry, Watches, Luggage, Sports and Outdoors). A successful candidate will be a self-starter comfortable with ambiguity and working in a fast-paced environment. This role requires an individual who strives to answer business/operational questions and who works across functional boundaries. The ideal candidate should also have a demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically, with a passion for innovation.

Key job responsibilities

As a DS in our team you will:

* Collaborate with cross-functional leaders from business development, product, and engineering to implement measurable, data-driven strategies

* Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for large scale data analyses, model development, model validation and implementation.

* Perform large-scale experimentation to identify hidden relationships between variables in large datasets

* Implement statistical, machine learning, or other mathematical methodologies to solve specific business problems

* Coordinate research and analysis activities using unstructured and structured data and use programming to clean and organize data

* Foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation

The successful candidate is self-driven and thrives in a fast-paced, innovative environment. You have deep expertise in accessing, manipulating, analyzing, and modeling large datasets across various platforms. You possess strong business acumen and excellent communication skills, and use them to effectively translate business requirements into scientific solutions. You stay current with emerging technologies and implement them strategically.

Qualifications

- Master's degree or above in a quantitative field such as statistics, mathematics, data science, business analytics, economics, finance, engineering, or computer science

- 2+ years of machine learning, statistical modeling, data mining, and analytics techniques experience

- 2+ years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.) experience

- Experience in communicating technically, at a level appropriate for the audience

- 2+ years of data scientist experience



Extended Qualifications

- Experience in Python, Perl, or another scripting language

- Experience in a ML or data scientist role with a large technology company

- Knowledge of relevant statistical measures such as confidence intervals, significance of error measurements, development and evaluation data sets, etc.

- Experience applying theoretical models in an applied environment

- Experience implementing algorithms using both toolkits and self-developed code

- Experience with machine learning/statistical modeling data analysis tools and techniques, and parameters that affect their performance

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $125,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
