Description

Come build the future with us! In Payments Security, we protect foundational systems and products that allow Amazon to accept payments for all goods, content and services that people buy at Amazon and around the world. We are looking for an exceptional Senior Data Engineer to focus on Data Engineering, Insights, and Analytics, requiring deep technical skills, strong business acumen and a deep analytical background to provide actionable data-driven insights and decision support.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will have the opportunity to partner with a wide range of stakeholders that include Security Engineers, TPMs, Software Developers, and leaders in both Payments Security, as well as Payments businesses in Amazon. You will focus on defining, building, deploying, and evolving data insights that support our efforts in securing the ecosystem in Amazon Payments that processes millions of transactions every day across dozens of countries and payment methods. Over 100 million customers and merchants send tens of billions of dollars through our systems annually.

You will be an enabler to the Payments Security organization which owns full-stack Product Security for Payments across Amazon and its business units, deeply supporting the Global Payments businesses.

This position will provide you with a challenging and rewarding opportunity to help solve difficult security problems at planetary scale using your data engineering expertise. As a Senior Data Engineer you will help define short-term and long-term data engineering strategy. You will balance your efforts between strategic work and operational deliverables. You will have the opportunity to work with junior Data Engineers in PaySec, and other data engineering teams within Amazon. You care deeply about keeping Amazon customers data secure and therefore are passionate about finding data sources, transforming them into actionable insights to security and product teams, and drive long term improvements to our data engineering program. You are well-known for your excellent prioritization skills as well as your ability to communicate at all levels of an organization (technical and non-technical). The successful candidate must be autonomous, comfortable operating in highly ambiguous situations, and must deliver results in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate should have strong communication skills and ability to prioritize effectively to ensure timelines are met. You will own projects end-to-end, from engaging with customers to production and delivery of insights used by the organization to make key business and security decisions. You should be a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, able to think big and be creative (while still paying careful attention to detail). You think in terms of architecture, not just code. You proactively work to mature and improve the data engineering program in Payments Security.

Key job responsibilities

- Lead the data strategy for Payments Security, ranging from data pipeline architecture, metric definition, data gathering, to tool selection.

- Provide data-related support including defining requirements, identifying new data sources, creating and maintaining data pipelines, and developing insights and analytics that PaySec leadership and engineers use to achieve PaySec goals.

- Create and maintain roadmaps for the data engineering program in PaySec to keep focus in our efforts. Create mechanisms for regular review with Payments Security leadership and other stakeholders.

- Define and refine PaySec metrics including KPIs, P0 metrics, Business Scorecards, and build the data pipelines, dashboards, and analytics associated with them.

- Work with junior Data Engineers to build dashboards to support Payments development teams, Payments Security, and other teams so they can take action on items such as outstanding security findings.

- Support reporting requirements including MBR/QBR, Domain Reviews, and other Payments Security activities that require data reporting.

- Mentor junior Data Engineers, Business Intelligence Engineers, as well as Security Engineers, and other functions in Payments Security helping them advance their data skills.

- Develop a broad and deep understanding of the services and architectures pertaining to Amazon Payments. Contribute to the short and long-term data strategy to ensure that products are designed and built securely by design.

- Lead new, reoccurring, or ah-hoc data engineering requests with end-to-end ownership.

- Support team building, recruiting and onboarding activities.

- Must be a kind human who enjoys working in a fun team
