As a Data Engineer on the Threat Discovery and Detection (TD2) team within Customer Service Security, you'll play a crucial role in building and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers our advanced threat detection and prevention systems. You'll work at the intersection of big data and cybersecurity, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to identify and mitigate potential risks to Amazon's customer service operations.
You'll be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing data pipelines that ingest, process, and analyze vast amounts of security-related data from multiple sources. Your expertise will be essential in developing scalable solutions that enable real-time threat detection, anomaly identification, and predictive risk modeling.
In this role, you'll collaborate closely with security engineers, data scientists, and software engineers to translate complex security requirements into robust data architectures. You'll leverage cutting-edge technologies and AWS services to build systems that embody our "Fortify the Exit, Secure the Entry" security approach.
A day in the life
* Collaborate with data scientists and security engineers to architect data pipelines that support novel threat detection algorithms
* Design and maintain scalable ETL processes to ingest and transform massive volumes of log and event data
* Implement data quality checks and cleansing workflows to ensure the integrity of our detection systems
* Optimize queries and data models to enable rapid threat hunting and anomaly detection
* Present data infrastructure designs to cross-functional partners and incorporate their feedback
* Troubleshoot data flow issues and provide technical support to detection engineers

The Threat Discovery and Detection (TD2) team is a critical component of the Customer Service Security organization. Our mission is to protect Amazon customer data and ensure operational integrity through advanced techniques and continuous monitoring. We develop innovative solutions that identify internal threats impacting Customer Service and establish a multi-layered defense strategy.
In the coming years, we're focused on enhancing our real-time threat detection capabilities, implementing machine learning-driven anomaly detection, and expanding our data sources to provide more comprehensive security coverage. As a Data Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of these initiatives, helping to shape the future of data-driven security at Amazon.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree- 5+ years of data engineering experience
- Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
- Experience as a data engineer or related specialty (e.g., software engineer, business intelligence engineer, data scientist) with a track record of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large datasets
- Experience with AWS technologies like Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda, and IAM roles and permissions
Extended Qualifications
- Master's degree- Knowledge of batch and streaming data architectures like Kafka, Kinesis, Flink, Storm, Beam
- Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence
- Familiarity with machine learning concepts and their application in anomaly detection

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $118,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $205,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
