Description
Amazon is looking for a talented and experienced attorney to join Amazon’s Sustainability Legal team as we work on some of the most ambitious sustainability challenges on the planet. In this role, you’ll support Amazon’s Sustainability team with reporting and strategy, as well as force-multiplying with other signatories of The Climate Pledge. With the evolution of voluntary sustainability reporting alongside new mandatory reporting requirements being considered and adopted in many parts of the world, you will support the teams at Amazon who are working to develop new approaches and capabilities to meet those challenges and navigate this dynamic reporting environment.As part of this role, you will work alongside many different Amazon teams, including the global Sustainability team, Public Policy, Public Relations, Accounting, Finance, and others, on our programmatic efforts to drive sustainability action and report on our initiatives and metrics amidst evolving requirements and risks. You will be a key stakeholder and strategic advisor as we continue toward our Climate Pledge commitment and as Amazon businesses prepare for reporting and other sustainability-related communications at Amazon scale. You will also collaborate on and provide support for other initiatives and legal issues related to Amazon’s sustainability work.
Key job responsibilities
• Strategically advising and partnering with Sustainability leaders to develop, shape, and scale Amazon’s reporting and disclosures program, processes, and tools as Amazon continues to grow its business and operations, including identifying and implementing process improvements and advising on technology-enabled solutions;
• Supporting joint-action initiatives with Climate Pledge signatories;
• Advising on Amazon’s strategy and approach under current and emerging sustainability compliance requirements;
• Working with the Sustainability, Finance, Public Relations, Public Policy, Accounting, and other stakeholder teams to develop, prepare, and draft Amazon’s voluntary and regulatory reporting and disclosures;
• Advising on internal assessments and mapping exercises needed to prepare and inform disclosures;
• Providing guidance and forming advocacy positions on reporting standards;
• Counseling on current and emerging sustainability requirements and policy engagement strategies;
• Advising on and managing internal processes and practices to support sustainability-related governance requirements and disclosure controls and procedures;
• Developing and implementing internal processes to meet third-party assurance and verification requirements; and
• Engaging with internal and external stakeholders on sustainability reporting and disclosures.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of legal experience- Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent
- Relevant experience working on sustainability initiatives, reporting and/or public company reporting and corporate governance
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed
Extended Qualifications
- A mix of law firm and in-house experience with large, multinational, complex companies advising on sustainability- Experience working with regulators and public policy experts on proposed legislation and regulations
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations
- Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams
- Hands-on project management experience, including excellent organizational skills, the ability to manage and prioritize a large number of projects and attention to detail
- Great judgment, common sense, enthusiasm and a good sense of humor

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $138,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
