Description

Amazon is seeking a high-judgment, self-motivated, strategic communications professional to join our Global Corporate Trust & Reputation (GCTR) team. This person will play an important role in rapidly responding to media questions regarding business and stakeholder related issues.

The GCTR team manages issues related to employees, operations, customers, sustainability, and safety. This position is for someone who can lead and work collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, and thrives in the unpredictable. The role is never boring, and requires a team player who is willing to roll up their sleeves to get the job done.

The individual in this role will manage day-to-day crises and respond to media inquiries, while keeping leaders informed of potential news cycles. This work includes, but isn’t limited to, developing, delivering, and collaborating on external facing responses and approaches to business and stakeholder issues. Preparation work is also a big part of this role, as the individual in this role will be entrusted to provide comprehensive risk assessments for applicable business decisions.

The right candidate will have exceptional writing skills and work effectively in a matrixed global organization under tight deadlines.

Key job responsibilities

- Build and maintain relationships with key media outlets/reporters to discuss and manage media requests, correct inaccuracies, and establish a connection point for future story development

- Provide PR counsel to senior leaders within the organization

- Monitor, assess, escalate and resolve a variety of situations occurring simultaneously with excellent judgment

- Develop strategic responses to complicated issues and have the ability to concisely, but fully articulate the reasoning for their suggested approach

- Effectively represent Amazon as a spokesperson

- Work collaboratively across teams

A day in the life

This experienced media professional will be primarily responsible for managing incoming media inquiries from multiple news outlets and providing PR counsel to site/business leadership. Issues range from transportation and delivery matters involving those who deliver packages to Amazon customers, changes to Amazon’s operations footprint, topics of interest to external stakeholders, and more. We’re looking for someone who is experienced and comfortable in speaking with reporters to get more information, help educate them, and not be afraid to push back to mitigate the reputational risk to Amazon. On-camera experience or willingness to represent Amazon on-camera is a plus.



Qualifications

- 7+ years of recent professional communications or public relations experience

- Bachelor's degree



Extended Qualifications

- Experience serving as an on-the-record spokesperson.

- More than 5 years experience working on complex, reactive based media requests.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $188,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
