Description
The Amazon Device Design Team is an inventive R&D group that designs and develops high-profile consumer electronics. What began as Lab126 in 2004 has grown into the Device Design Team behind beloved products like Kindle, Fire tablets, Fire TV, and Amazon Echo. Now, we're looking for a Senior CNC Prototyping Specialist to join us in our mission of creating what's next.As a Senior CNC Prototyping Specialist, you'll be responsible for delivering innovative CNC programming and machining capabilities to support our rapid prototyping needs. This includes everything from data creation and machine setup to post-finishing and cross-functional collaboration. You'll work to expand our CNC expertise, leveraging external resources and complementary fabrication techniques.
Key accountabilities include:
- Ordering and managing consumables, ensuring proper waste disposal, and overseeing day-to-day equipment maintenance
- Providing strategic input on new equipment as part of our annual capital planning
- Confirming safety protocols and maintaining a clean, organized work environment
- Working closely with Facilities to ensure regulatory compliance
Your CNC expertise will directly translate into innovative prototypes - from functional mock-ups and texture studies to critical fixtures and engineered components. You'll also contribute to the discovery of new prototyping and manufacturing technologies that could unlock future possibilities.
Qualifications
- - 7+ years of hands-on experience operating and post-processing a variety of CNC equipment (Datron, HAAS, Okuma, etc.)- - 7+ years of CAD/CAM software experience for component creation, modification, and toolpath processing
- - 7+ years of CNC shop floor management or team leadership
- - Associate's degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field
Extended Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field- Proficiency with CAD tools like Creo, Rhino, Fusion 360, and SolidWorks
- Expertise in CAM software such as SolidCAM, HyperMill, Siemens NX, and Mastercam
- Proven ability to innovate with current technology and extend capabilities through prototyping
- Passion for collaborative problem-solving and a customer-obsessed mindset

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $138,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $239,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
