Description

Amazon is looking for a Sr. Capital Projects Manager with a strong delivery record and proven program management experience to own and execute strategic, cross-functional operations and technology projects on the Amazon Transportation Operations Management (TOM) team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to shape and execute strategies for our logistics footprint and related infrastructure. This role requires scoping multiple large cross-functional transportation projects, managing project timelines, and communicating to senior management on status, risks, and process changes. This role will also be responsible for managing the program budget and delivery across regions for special projects related to retrofits, expansions and improvement including technology upgrades. This role requires someone who can operate at both strategic and tactical levels, with the ability to influence across organizations while maintaining through understanding of yard safety and operational standards. You’ll collaborate with people across multiple business lines, site types, and site operations to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security for our network while providing planned capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. You’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion. This role will require approximately 25% travel within the United States and Canada.

Key job responsibilities

- Coordinating with cross-functional project teams, planning and organizing, and executing complex capital projects across multiple organizations and stakeholders to enable operational excellence

- Demonstrate performance that serves as a model of excellence establishing design best practices, business requirements, design team collaboration, and stakeholder alignment

- Manage interface between internal (Real Estate, Global Engineering Services Pre-construction, Safety, Procurement, Construction, TOM Field Operations, Site Leadership, Economic Development, Legal, Finance etc.) and external stakeholders (Contractors and Vendors) to ensure on time and on budget delivery of capital projects.

- Provide technical direction in accordance to established design parameters for multiple projects in various locations simultaneously

- Implement design standards that meet or exceed our quality requirements, drive value engineering and standardization of civil site plans, while reviewing yard designs to ensure conformance with current and future operational needs, including nodal off-site yards, autonomous vehicle compatibility, and emerging technologies in yard operations, and maintain alignment with standard specifications

- Build and maintaining overall delivery program and project budget, submitting Capital Allocation Requests to Senior leadership to secure finance for project delivery

- Analyze and report construction progress and financials

- Drive strategic planning across the organization and ensure critical debates are surfaced and resolved. Shepherd the strategic planning process, from 3YP, QxG to OP1 to OP2 to Monthly and Quarterly Reviews

- Concurrently manage multiple capital improvement projects associated with existing facilities

- Travel (within the United States and Canada) for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and interfacing with design consultants. Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%.

Qualifications

- 5+ years of program or project management experience

- Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership

- Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements

- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management

- Demonstrated track record of independently performing program management across cross-functional teams in an extremely fast paced environment that has a high degree of ambiguity

- 5+ years of experience in complex technical project management (commercial / industrial / logistics) projects from design phase through implementation and operation with proven ability to design workable solutions and drive successful implementation

- Ability to communicate complex technical issues to senior leadership or non-engineers, develop basic business case financial projections and create performance metrics

- Experience in software programs (Bluebeam, BIM360, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite)



Extended Qualifications

- 5+ years of construction cost management experience

- Master’s degree in Engineering, Architecture or Construction Management

- Active Professional Engineering or Architectural License, and Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification

- Proven ability to effectively manage large scale budgets for transportation infrastructure across multiple locations

- 5+ years of experience operating within at least two disciplines, which could consist of Design & Engineering, Owner’s Representation, Commercial Development, or Engineering & Design

- Strong knowledge of industry standards, building codes, transportation industry benchmarking and regulatory requirements

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $104,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
