Description
Have you ever felt constrained/blocked by existing data sets and reporting solutions? This is an opportunity to get in at the ground floor and join a team developing a data lake, analytical tools and AI solutions. Our teams focus is on iterative design and moving the needle for our customer as nimbly as possible. We are looking for a Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) to help drive forward big data solutions through innovation. We are responsible for supporting the Global Risk Management and Claims org by developing enriched data sets, automated reporting solutions through the use of AWS tech. This includes searching for new insights and developing enhanced data through the application of a variety of AI/ML tools.Key job responsibilities
- Develop reporting and analytics for the Insurance claims life cycle
- Proven ability to design reporting layer solutions with (Tableau, Power BI, Quicksight, etc.)
- Design, implement, and support a platform providing ad hoc access to large datasets
- Manipulate/mine data from database tables (ex. Redshift, MySQL)
- Manipulate/mine data by writing scripts (ex. Python, PowerShell, JavaScript)
- Develop analytical tools: UIs, metrics and dashboards
- Perform deep-dives and root cause analysis to answer business questions
- Work with cross functional stakeholders in defining the source of truth and obsessively making sure the data fidelity is high
- Effectively communicate (written and verbal) solutions and methodologies to senior leadership
- Work with engineering teams to enable the appropriate capture and storage of data
- Complete ad hoc data retrieval and analysis
- Monitor existing metrics, develop and propose new metrics, and identify new, actionable risk signals
A day in the life
We are building a ground up solution leveraging AWS tech to develop a Data Lake for all of Global Risk Management and Claims. Your day to day responsibilities will include one or more of the following:
- Creating new metrics and insights through the use of AI
- Developing automated solutions to existing manual data processes
- Creating efficient data structures for analytics
- Enriching data through internal and external data sources
About the team
Our team not only supports Global Risk Management and Claims but their internal/external stakeholders as well. On this team you will get a chance to work directly with Actuaries, Accountants, Legal, Finance and other internal Amazon business teams. Solutions you build will have a direct impact on the overall success of one of the worlds largest insurance teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in BI, finance, engineering, statistics, computer science, mathematics, finance or equivalent quantitative field- Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools
- 3+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience
- Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
- Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling
Extended Qualifications
- Master's degree in BI, finance, engineering, statistics, computer science, mathematics, finance or equivalent quantitative field- Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift
- Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $89,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
