We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

As a Backbone Network Planner, you are responsible for managing the planning and development of Amazon’s physical network infrastructure. This role requires extensive collaboration, driving strategic planning initiatives, designing high-availability solutions at scale, and delivering precise documentation. You will actively drive backbone infrastructure solutions within your designated region, working with Business Developers, suppliers, technology partners, as well as Amazon networking teams to meet our customers’ demands.

- Work with network engineering to ensure that the highest degree of design consistency, network efficiency, cost optimization, and long-term scalability of the backbone network is delivered.

- Compile topology information and performance metrics and make recommendations for improvements based on their findings.

- Manage network change (migrations) as our network evolves to support increased traffic volumes and geographic expansion.

- Translate backbone and edge forecasts into actionable network infrastructure projects.

- Own network availability, performance and remediation plans to address non-compliance.

- Document the physical infrastructure of the rest of world backbone infrastructure
