Our team utilizes leading-edge science and engineering technologies in generative AI to help shoppers discover new products and brands through intuitive, conversational interfaces. We also empower advertisers to reach shoppers, using their own voice to explain how their products meet shoppers' needs. We collaborate with various teams across multiple Amazon organizations to push the boundary of what's possible in these fields.
Key job responsibilities
As a Principal Applied Scientist for the team, you will drive appropriate technology choices for the customers and the business, lead the way for continuous innovation, and shape the future of e-commerce. You will have opportunity to apply your deep subject matter expertise in the area of large language models and generative AI across various modalities. You will work with multiple teams of scientists and engineers to translate business and functional requirements into concrete deliverables. You will invent new product experiences that enable our shoppers to easily navigate our vast inventory either via search queries, multi-turn conversations, or other modes of input. You will liaise with internal Amazon partners and work on bringing state-of-the-art GenAI models to production to power novel conversational experiences. You will stay abreast of the latest developments in the space of GenAI and identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and productivity of the team. You will contribute to defining a long-term science vision for our advertising business in the area of conversational shopping and beyond.
Qualifications
- PhD in Computer Science, Statistics or related field.- 10+ years of applied ML experience in building complex, real-time systems involving AI, ML, and NLP with successful delivery to customers.
- Hands-on experience with designing and prototyping AI solutions for real world applications.
Extended Qualifications
- Research publications or patents in generative AI technologies- Experience with natural language processing and generative model architectures
- Background in advertising technology or e-commerce platforms
- Demonstrated track record of innovative AI solution development
- Experience with advertising systems and applications.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $179,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $309,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
