Description

Amazon is looking for a passionate, talented, and inventive Sr. Applied Scientist with a strong machine learning background to help build industry-leading language technology.

Our mission is to provide a delightful experience to Amazon’s customers by pushing the envelope in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLM), Computer Vision (CV), Machine Learning (ML), Responsible AI, Safety, Security, Evaluation, and Model Adaptation.

As part of our AWS DS3, Bedrock science team at Amazon Web Services (AWS), you will work alongside internationally recognized experts to develop novel algorithms and modeling techniques to advance the state-of-the-art in generative AI. Your work will directly impact millions of our customers in the form of products and services, as well as contributing to the wider research community. You will gain hands-on experience with Amazon’s heterogeneous text and structured data sources, and have access to large-scale computing resources to accelerate advances in generative AI.

The Science team at Amazon Bedrock builds the science foundations of Bedrock, which is a fully managed service that makes high-performing foundation models available for use through a unified API. At Amazon Bedrock, you’ll experience the benefits of working in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment, while leveraging AWS resources.

In particular, this role will manage and lead the Amazon Bedrock Guardrails science team. Guardrails provides configurable safeguards to help safely build generative AI applications at scale. With a consistent and standard approach used across a wide range of foundation models (FMs) including FMs supported in Amazon Bedrock, fine-tuned models, and models hosted outside of Amazon Bedrock

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

Qualifications

- 3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience

- PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience

- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language

- Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning



Extended Qualifications

- Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow, numpy, scipy etc.

- Experience with large scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark etc.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $150,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
