Description
Project Kuiper is Amazon's effort to launch a group of Low Earth Orbit satellites to provide fast, affordable broadband to communities globally. Our Customer Terminal (CT) antenna team is creating leading phased array technologies to link users to the Kuiper satellite network from almost anywhere on Earth.We are looking for an exceptional engineer to join our Customer Terminal antenna team. This person will advance phased array antennas, drive innovation in RF, antenna, custom ASIC, and communication systems. This role offers a unique chance to contribute to the development of advanced phased arrays and be part of something exceptional.
Key job responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for the development and integration of advanced phased array system into products, including:
- Work with a cross-functional team, define antenna requirements.
- Ensure seamless integration between custom ASICs and antenna systems for optimal RF performance.
- Define antenna concepts and requirements during product definition.
- Develop tools for antenna performance analysis in larger systems.
- Champion engineering excellence and innovation, setting a high bar for technical depth, quality, and delivery.
- Build a strong culture of ownership, where engineers are empowered to innovate and challenge assumptions.
- Build and test active phased array prototypes and front-end circuits.
- Influence and define system-level requirements in collaboration with the ASIC, software, systems, and product teams.
- Work with the worlds most forward thinking and innovative phased array engineers.
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
A day in the life
As a Senior Antenna Engineer, you will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary team to conceive and design innovative phased array antennas. You will work closely with Project Kuiper’s various sub-teams and engage third party suppliers in order to drive key aspects of product definition, design, optimization, implementation and test.
About the team
The Kuiper Antennas and CT team is developing the next generation of high-performance, low-cost antennas to bring global internet access to the most remote areas on Earth. The team is composed of world-class experts in phased array design, RF systems, hardware and software development, and custom ASICs. We work in a collaborative, fast-paced, and technically challenging environment, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible every day.
In this role you'll work on one of the most ambitious and technically advanced antenna teams in the world, with the mission to deliver a transformational product to global customers.
Qualifications
- BS degree in EE with RF and antenna coursework or research, or equivalent experience- 7+ years of experience of research and/or development in antenna design
- 3+ years of experience in programming in Matlab, Python or C++
- Experience with one of the mainstream antenna simulation tools (CST, HFSS, FEKO, …)
Extended Qualifications
- MSc or PhD in EE with RF- or antenna-related thesis research- Strong foundations in antennas: Impedance matching, theoretical and practical limitations of antennas
- Strong foundation in mathematics and physics
- Experience in development of computational tools
- 3+ year of design experience RF building blocks such as filters, hybrids, combiners
- Experience with active RF circuits and front-end design
- Experience in phased array development
- Hands-on experience with phased array calibration, characterization, and over-the-air validation.
- Experience with both planar and volumetric phased arrays, analog/digital beamforming, and unique lattice architectures.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
