OverviewThe Compute Customer Engineering Team (Compute CET) is a core contributor to the Microsoft Azure Compute workload‑focused model. The team engages with customers to build trust, strengthen operational resilience, and support long‑term success. These engagements help address next‑generation workload challenges and provide insights that shape future Azure Compute products and services.
We are looking for an experienced and strategic Principal Product Manager to guide a team of engineering and product professionals within the compute product domain. This role offers an opportunity to influence Mission Critical Services innovation and contribute to building the foundation for future advancements in artificial intelligence. The position requires strong leadership skills and the technical depth to support and engage directly with customers when needed. Responsibilities include leading development and product teams, supporting customer workload success, managing escalations, and ensuring delivery of engineering commitments for Strategic 500 customers.
Candidates should have substantial experience in technical leadership roles involving complex customer engagements and direct collaboration with executive stakeholders. The role requires an ability to navigate high‑impact situations, provide situational leadership, and communicate complex technical concepts clearly through both written and verbal communication. Success also depends on using data‑informed decision‑making, adapting quickly in ambiguous environments, and contributing to product and feature roadmap design.

Responsibilities
Lead and manage a team of workload-focused Customer account team leads, Engineers Managers, and providing coaching to product development teams on product roadmap adjustments.Serve as a technical and strategic escalation point for high-severity customer incidents and engagements.Partner with Product Engineering, Support, and Field teams to drive resolution of complex customer issues and influence product improvements.Model technical excellence by engaging directly with customers to resolve critical issues or demonstrate best practices.Drive operational excellence through metrics, process improvements, and readiness initiatives leveraging data from multiple data sources across Excel, Kusto, and PowerBIRepresent the voice of the customer in internal forums and contribute to the evolution of Microsoft’s security products and services.Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning within the team.

Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in product/service/program management or software developmentOR equivalent experience.3+ years people management experience.
Other Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Product Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $163,000 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.
