The MAI Creative Studio is seeking a multidisciplinary Principal Visual Designer with a passion for creating and directing brand content across a wide range of mediums. You thrive in both ideation and production, bringing concepts to life through web, product, merchandise, video, and emerging formats, and you bring equal energy to hands‑on creation and to shaping the creative direction that guides it. You maintain a sharp eye for craft and design detail, drawing inspiration from across creative culture and contributing a distinct point of view that strengthens and diversifies the team’s work. You communicate your ideas with clarity and confidence, using strong presentation skills to articulate creative thinking and guide stakeholders. This is a hands‑on role for a designer who is energized by making, exploring, and elevating brand expression through thoughtful, high‑quality visual design.

Responsibilities

Develop strong visual concepts that elevate brand expression across mediumsPresent work clearly and confidently to stakeholders at all levelsCollaborate closely with partners across Marketing, Product, Communications, and the broader MAI organizationWork planfully with Producers to scope, schedule, and deliver creative projectsEvolve, uphold, and extend the brand identity and design systemLead creative projects end‑to‑end, from concept development through production and implementationChampion the intersection of product and brand design, ensuring cohesion across experiencesTranslate strategic goals into compelling visual storytelling and narrative‑driven assetsWork with agility, adopting AI tools and emerging technologies to enhance creative outputMaintain a high bar for craft, detail, and execution across all deliverables

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 6+ years experience working in product or service designOR Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 8+ years experience working in product or service designOR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems). Preferred Qualifications

A portfolio or work samples highlighting at least 5 years of experience delivering end-to-end creative solutionsAbility to manage multiple projects and priorities, adapting quickly in a fast-moving, innovative environmentAdvanced skills in graphic design/illustration, including typography, layout, and visual systemsProficiency in motion design tools (e.g., After Effects, Premiere, or equivalent)Experience producing assets for both digital and physical applications (web, product UI, print, merch, environmental)Ability to build and extend brand identity systems with consistency and precisionStrong visual storytelling skills, including narrative sequencing and framingExperience working with AI‑assisted creative tools for concepting, iteration, and productionStrong communication skills for presenting design rationale and collaborating across disciplines

Product Design IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800.00 - $274,800.00 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000.00 - $304,200.00 per year.
