Description
Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers Microsoft's cloud services. The team is responsible for designing, building and operating our global datacenters; managing the demand planning and capacity utilization of our cloud infrastructure; and all of the operations needed to run the physical infrastructure (including supply chain, hardware, power, security, and workflow teams). We focus on smart growth with an emphasis on automation, data driven engineering, cost-effectiveness and environmental sustainability.Within CO+I, the CO+I Engineering team is responsible for delivering engineering ecosystem for the datacenter capacity delivery and operation for Microsoft’s cloud. Inside of CO+I Engineering, CPMD is the centralized PM and Design organization driving product strategy, roadmap and, along with the engineers, delivering the products and services to support Microsoft cloud growth.
We are looking for a Principal Program Manager who will lead high-impact, cross-functional initiatives to advance the organization’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate sustainability goals and regulatory requirements. This senior-level role involves strategic planning, program development, and overseeing the execution of complex sustainability projects across multiple business units. Key responsibilities include collaborating with executive leadership, internal teams, and external stakeholders to drive ESG performance improvements in areas such as climate action, resource efficiency, supply chain sustainability, and social impact. As a Principal Technical Program Manager, you will define, develop and execute cutting-edge solutions for End to End Execution for data center capacity delivery in CO+I Organization. As the Principal Technical Program Manager, you’ll lead projects from planning to delivery by working closely with business stakeholders and engineers across CO+I. Lead project initiatives, drive end to end digital transformation to implement state-of-art processes & tools and remain accountable for the targeted business outcomes. As part of this role/responsibility you will own building the vision for the business area, driving discussions, and participating in defining the to-be state for business processes and building the engineering roadmap, owning and driving the engineering execution by working closely with engineering leads and the business teams. Develop a clear product roadmap balancing business, technical, and experience considerations. Manage data migration, provide guidance, monitor progress, stay abreast of industry trends, and foster a culture of data stewardship and collaboration.
You will identify complex opportunities and gaps across multiple product and service feature areas, then collaborate with other departments to evaluate opportunity, define solution options, and propose a roadmap.You will partner with Business and Software Engineering to design technical solutions across feature areas. You’ll also identify risks and propose data-based mitigations.You’ll define success criteria and create relationships for implementing features for complex cross-functional projects. You’ll coordinate and ensure alignment across organizations.You will deliver on roadmap for multiple feature groups, track project schedules, develop staging and implementation plan, and manage programs governance.You will drive continuous improvements by validating use cases and writing test cases. You’ll also lead teams to partner with other departments to collect performance metrics, drive customer support, and lead direct customer / user engagements.Embody our Culture & Values
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years’ experience in product/program management for delivering software product, tools, or servicesOR equivalent experience.3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projectsOther Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
6+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
5+ years experience and delivering end-to-end distributed systems.
Experience in cloud infrastructure management
Analytical skills to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions. Ability to diagnose and guide teams to troubleshoot issues, solve complex problems, and propose innovative solutions.
Demonstrate proficiency in interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
