Description
This role is an opportunity to work in our Technology & Research group within the Office of the CTO focused on exciting Microsoft AI work that impacts the whole company. We are looking for an experienced Technical Program Manager that can take a challenging environment create a vision, understand our AI technology and safety capabilities, and work across a large team to drive big impact for our Responsible AI work at the company.We hold ourselves accountable to a high level of leadership and forward thought and need a leader that can successfully navigate quickly evolving external and internal Responsible AI environments and lead efforts across a large virtual team using your influence to drive results.
AI is seeing exponential growth unlike any other moment in history, our responsibility is to help the company seize the opportunity while understanding the regulatory scrutiny and complexities of a quickly changing world within and external to Microsoft. We need to uphold our Responsible AI commitments while also accelerating our capabilities to bring innovative AI solutions to market. Our mission is to speed our ability to adapt and support RAI practices across the company while still pushing for state-of-the-art inspiration and long-term growth.
This role engages with a diverse group of people from a wide variety of backgrounds, prior work & life experiences across the entire company. The pace of innovation is staggering, and this leader will work across Microsoft to support a multi-year strategy while navigating an extremely quickly evolving pace of AI innovation, business opportunity and desire for the world to drive safety and responsibility through Responsible AI. This role plays a pivotal part in partnering across our leadership team to drive a clear and impactful vision, that is user friendly, ambitious, takes multiple group views and requirements to drive strategic and speedy impact towards our RAI goals across an extremely diverse and influential team of leaders and communities.

We are looking for a Technical Program Manager/Engineer to lead our efforts in transforming and improving Microsoft’s delivery against our Responsible AI initiatives through our engineering systems and platform services. You will work with senior leadership across multiple organizations including Security, Safety Services, Office of Responsible AI, many Product teams, Evaluation/Measurement Services, Red-teaming and more, to drive alignment and impact across Microsoft’s organizational boundaries and engineering systems. This is a high impact role with elevated visibility with the Office of the CTO and cross-company Responsible AI executive leadership team with ample opportunities to share success and receive support from them. The scope of responsibilities includes:
Key member of a multi-disciplinary team in creating the vision, strategy and technical and business roadmap for our RAI goals of world class leadership in this space. Working with executive leadership and product + platform teams to create and maintain strategic alignment of our commercial and research needs when it comes to technical systems supporting RAI. Engaging with engineering teams across Microsoft to align dependencies and co-innovation to enable RAI within product making systems and processes.Partnering across multi-functional divisions, teams to deliver world-class user experiences. Manage the leadership of our RAI / Safety Board LT and cross team view to ensure transparency and visibility across our key priorities and deliverables. Measuring and reporting on the success of the problem space through relevant metrics and performance indicators.Understanding our competitive position relative to responsible AI and where we can learn from startups, technology innovators and drive acceleration and innovation to do it even better.Driving a culture of quality, innovation, collaboration, and teamwork, and embody our Culture and Values.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development.
OR equivalent experience.
3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
Deep multifunctional experiences driving high technical impact with leadershipPreferred Qualifications:
Experience managing virtual or cross collaboration technical teams and projects; coaching, mentoring, caring and contributing to a fast-paced, results-oriented v-teams.Solid drive for results and ability to create effective relationships, influence and collaborate internally and externally at all organizational levels.The ability to identify business + technical RAI needs and determine solutions that will create more automated, self-serve Responsible AI engineering/product making systems with ability to manage a very quickly changing space and bring people along the journey.Ability to architect systems and user flows to create a technical solution, prototype if needed, test models or systems and work with teams in the company to drive solutions to be built. Sometimes this will be identifying partnerships, startups, or acquisitions that help us jumpstart this work faster than building internally.The ability to understand the parts of a wide portfolio of businesses and their interrelationships. This includes skill in understanding the industry, competition, and expected future developments and challenges, the business's competitive strengths and weaknesses, opportunities to grow the business and reduce complexity, and awareness of the environment for opportunities. Influential executive presence and experience managing relationships; solid ability to drive cross-functional teams, partners, and cross-org leadership teamsProduct leadership abilities with demonstrated strategic thinking and vision; Proven track record of delivering large scale enterprise solutions and services with huge business impact and customer first mindset. Thrives in ambiguity, agile in navigating situations, and can create a vision with a bias for action and drive for results.Demonstrated solid capability in verbal and written communications skills.
Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
