We are seeking a visionary Principal Technical Program Manager - CoreAI to spearhead our mission of delivering customer success with next-generation AI-powered development tools, including GitHub Copilot, Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio, and other innovative internal solutions. In this pivotal role, you will champion our engineering teams as Customer Zero—leading the charge in harnessing AI tools to maximize productivity, streamline workflows, and set new standards for excellence across Microsoft. Your leadership will empower thousands of developers to achieve more, transforming the way we build and innovate with AI at the core of our success.

As the leader responsible for AI tooling adoption, you will play a crucial role in establishing methodologies for assessing developer productivity enabled by AI. Through comprehensive analysis of usage trends, engagement metrics, and qualitative feedback from tens of thousands of Microsoft engineers, you will provide valuable insights into how AI tools contribute to alleviating developer workload, accelerating project delivery, and minimizing cognitive demands.

Champion the adoption of first-party AI development tools across the company by actively promoting their usage, gathering comprehensive feedback from engineers, and delivering actionable insights to product teams to drive continuous improvement. Lead internal campaigns to promote AI tooling adoption—crafting newsletters, updates, and stories that build excitement, transparency, and momentum around our dogfooding efforts. Build metrics and telemetry frameworks to measure adoption, satisfaction, and productivity gains across teams. Present insights, roadblocks, and progress to product and engineering leadership, driving cross-functional alignment. Be the internal voice of the developer: deeply understand their day-to-day workflows, pain points, and opportunities for acceleration. Stay ahead of AI and developer tooling trends in the market to guide internal innovation and identify areas of opportunity.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years of experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis or product developmentOR equivalent experience.5+ years of experience working in software engineering—writing production code and understanding developer workflows deeply. 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.3+ years of experience evangelizing tooling by writing guides, giving demos, and mentoring teams. 2+ years of experience with AI-based development tools, such as GitHub Copilot, custom LLM applications, prompt-based tools, or related ML-driven systems. Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.8+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.Passion for emerging AI trends and how they reshape software development culture. Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage both executive stakeholders and hands-on engineers. Experience running customer adoption campaigns, developer enablement teams, or similar initiatives. Familiarity with metrics frameworks like DORA, SPACE, or custom developer productivity KPIs. Prior experience in organizations shipping complex developer platforms, SDKs, or APIs.

Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
