As a part of CoreAI, Developer Division (“DevDiv”) is chartered with empowering every developer and every development team on the planet to build great software faster. We build developer tools and services to enable anyone from citizen developers to experienced professional developers to be successful in realizing their software’s potential from local to cloud development. App Service is a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) offering and one of the top services in Azure all-up (with most paying customers of any Azure compute service). The service powers Web Apps, Mobile Apps, API Apps, Logic Apps and Functions, a hot offering for the serverless world.
App Service is seeking a passionate, driven, and collaborative Principal Technical Program Manager to drive the Secure Future Initiative (SFI) and Quality Excellence Initiative (QEI) across Serverless PaaS. In this role, you will engage with SFI and QEI requirements owners to understand, negotiate, and influence requirements before they reach engineering. You will partner closely with engineering leads and managers to deliver solutions that strengthen our security posture and elevate service resiliency and quality. Additionally, you will coordinate with engineers across the organization to monitor progress, resolve blockers, and provide status updates to the leadership team.
Our team is small, efficient, and engineering-focused, thriving in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for a Principal TPM who embraces new challenges and adapts quickly to evolving programs. To support multiple initiatives simultaneously, you will leverage AI to boost productivity and continuously seek opportunities to enhance engineering efficiency through agentic AI-based solutions.
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will be well versed with both security and quality, aspects of cloud services fundamentals. They will have the technical acumen to assess how these requirements would add value to our service or make them more secure. They will collaborate with engineering teams to implement fixes, solutions and best practices to meet these requirements. This role requires strong technical acumen, cross-team influence, and a passion for delivering secure, compliant, scalable, reliable, resiliency, and high-quality cloud services. Some of these requirements will need deep analysis and will emerge as separate programs. That would require the candidate to run multiple programs at the same time.
To be successful in the role, the ideal candidate will require strong interpersonal skills, influencing without authority, drive for results, and collaboration in addition to a proven track record in technical program management and operational excellence.
The Technical Program Manager Role encompasses a broad scope including:
Drive and deliver security and compliance requirementsNegotiate requirements with the central teams (SMEs) Understand best practices and available tooling to improve services resiliency and qualityInfluence and drive adoption of quality best practices and standards.Drive onboarding to central infra services and, tooling Track various metrics across broad set of servicesDrive tooling and infra feature design and implementation Identify new opportunities and work with the central teams to supplement existing quality standards.Deliver technical and high-level presentations. Present in various forums such as Fundamentals and QSCP (CVP and EVP levels)Drive multiple projects at any given time
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years’ experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years’ experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience1+ years of experience applying AI technologies and or building AI tooling.3+ years of experience working in the Cloud domain.8+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects1+ year(s) of experience reading code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).Familiarity with technical problem-solving and analytical skills.Familiarity with cloud services security best practicesFamiliarity with cloud architecture, telemetry, and monitoring systems.Familiarity with high-availability systems and services resiliency.Ability to influence without authority and drive results across teamsNegotiation skills to drive repair items/investments with engineering managers. Knows tradeoffs.
Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
