Description
Microsoft Silicon + Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide and we are looking for passionate, high-energy engineers to help achieve that mission. As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and HW infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the Cloud Hardware Systems Engineering (CHSE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for seasoned engineers with a strong passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.
We are looking for a Principal Systems Engineer - Hardware to join the team. As a Hardware Systems Engineering team member, you will work directly with engineers across cross-functional teams and deliver hardware solutions and testing designs. Responsibilities will include interacting directly with Microsoft’s cloud services teams, cross-discipline design teams focusing on the functional interfaces and developing test cases and qualifying the designs. This is an opportunity to leverage and grow your existing hardware design/validation experience and provide innovative E2E hardware solutions to Microsoft Cloud.
Lead in cross-boundary issue triage, debug, and resolution. Architect cloud test scenarios and guide software engineers to automate test flows. Develop guidelines for validation strategies, manufacturing, system bring-up, and system evaluation. Enable platform and solution level discussions, influencing architecture of the product and delivering to the quality goals across reliability, safety, manufacturability, serviceability, and performance. Learn, analyze, and work with new interfaces and subsystems, break down complex issues, and collaborate across cross-functional teams to resolve issues in a timely manner. Be part of the concept design discussions, gather node/rack system level requirements, clarify interfaces, provide feedback into future design requirements to help develop robust and high-performance cloud hardware solutions. Gather all the system engineering requirements for the infrastructure components by working with engineering groups and other stakeholders. Develop test strategy, test-cases and execute platform validation plans of the systems (node/rack level). Work with ODMs, other system engineers, internal design teams and customers to develop validation execution plans for new technologies and MSFT IP features. Use statistical analysis methods to identify highly complex issues that may affect a range of feature or product design changes. Identify possible solutions to novel and complex problems. Own the engineering interface between the customer and development teams across silicon, platform, ODM vendors, and the factory test/calibration team in the form of a test/user scenario development. Collaborate in design reviews between dev teams and development suppliers. Experience in critical complex issue debug and resolution in HW design. Perform NUDD (New, Unique, Different, Difficult) module feature analysis against supplier’s capabilities and provide risk mitigation for identified gaps and schedule impact assessment. Analyze and evaluate build data for each module engineering build, presenting summary to the development team and adjusting test spec limits based on build analysis. Architect and optimize system and device level test scenarios and guide software engineers to automate test flows. Guide junior Systems engineers on test case development, automation, test execution and debug.
