Microsoft’s Cloud business is expanding, and the Cloud Supply Chain (CSCP) organization is responsible for enabling the hardware infrastructure underlying this growth including AI! The CSCP organization is responsible for traditional supply chain functions such as plan, source, make, deliver, but also manages supportability (spares), sustainability, and decommissioning of datacenter assets worldwide. We deliver the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform for external customers. Our infrastructure is supported by more than 300 datacenters around the world that enable services for more than 1 billion customers in over 90 countries.

The Cloud Sourcing, Spares, Security and Sustainability (CS4) organization within CSCP manages sourcing, strategy, and suppliers to provide cost, flexibility, and supply advantages that enable our org to become a world-class supply chain. Well-defined and executed sourcing and supply chain management ensures reliable, on-time performance and optimized cost, prevents urgent and unplanned investments, and provides accurate and timely information across the supply base and internally across the infrastructure organization. We are looking for a Principal Strategic Sourcing Manager - Optics to join our team.

Focus Areas:

Early engagement with suppliers, network architecture and engineering teams to identify optimization opportunities and drive product solutions around design for availability and TCO.Establishment of appropriate sourcing strategy with relevant partners to drive long-term goals of Technology Adoption, COS (Continuity of Supply), cost, Quality, Business Health and SustainabilityFound and deliver supplier relationship management strategies tuned to each supplier.Drive RFP selection process through analysis of supplier capabilities.Provide thought leadership and manage strategic initiatives with internal stakeholders and suppliers to support cloud supply chain objectives and strategiesResponsibilities:

Sourcing management

Engage with cross- functional leadership including Network architecture, engineering, quality, and business teams to determine design solution and supply base to deliver that solution at optimal SC, COS, and cost.Own the Datacenter Switch technical sourcing strategy, partnering with product engineering teams on high visibility technology developments and delivery of innovative solutionsLead industry initiatives and innovate on business models to deliver best in cloud solutionsDefine RFQ / RFP activities and conduct negotiations with suppliers.Manage contracting activities with Legal and ensure contracts reflect appropriate business terms, IP protection, etc.Cost and operations management

Build multi-sourcing strategies to mitigate risk and drive appropriate competition.Identify cost reduction opportunities and drive supplier competition with cost modelling and other sourcing tools.Run weekly, monthly, quarter review with team on cost and operations KPIsContinuous improvement of all critical areas around supply, mfg., cost, etc.Manage supplier performance and compliance

Develop and enable new suppliersEnsure supplier compliance with MSFT security and social responsibility requirementsConduct Executive Business Review discussionsEnsure on time supplier delivery of corrective actions from business review / auditsSupport and meet business cost metrics through the development processEmbody our culture and values.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 6+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related rolesOR Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 8+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related rolesOR equivalent experience.3+ years of working with networking optics.Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

Cloud / high tech supply chain experienceExtensive knowledge in hardware sourcing and supply chainDemonstrated track record in supplier negotiation and managementProficient influencing skills and ability to build lasting relationships across multiple layers in the organizationProficient communication and synthesizing skills of both written and verbalAble to generate quality outputs using Microsoft tools (Word, Excel modeling, Power Point slides).Sourcing Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
