The CSCP Organization is responsible for traditional supply chain functions such as Plan, Source, Make, Deliver, but also manages supportability (spares), decommissioning and disposition of Data Center assets worldwide. We deliver the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform for external customers. Our infrastructure is comprised of a large global portfolio of more than 200 datacenters supporting services for more than 1 billion customers in over 90 countries worldwide.

The Cloud Sourcing, Spares, Sustainability & Security (CS4) organization within CSCP manages sourcing and supply of IT hardware for the data centers, and we're seeking a Senior Strategic Sourcing Manager - Optical to join our team. Well-defined and executed sourcing and supply chain management ensures reliable on-time performance, optimized cost, prevents urgent and unplanned investments, and provides accurate and timely information across the supply base and internally across the infrastructure organization. Responsibilites

The role of the Senior Strategic Sourcing Manager will focus on the following key areas:

Define and establish Microsoft’s Optical Sourcing strategy for DWDM (dense wavelength-division multiplexing), Metro, Long-Haul, and Subsea Optical technologies to drive competitive advantages for Microsoft cloud offerings.Early engagement with our suppliers, network architecture and engineering teams to identify optimization opportunities and drive product solutions around design for availability and TCO (Total Cost of Ownership).Establish appropriate sourcing strategy with relevant partners to drive long-term goals of Technology Adoption, COS (Continuity of Supply), Cost, Contracts, Quality, Business Health, and SustainabilityProvide thought leadership and manage strategic initiatives with internal stakeholders and suppliers to support cloud supply chain objectives and strategies.Sourcing management:

Engage with cross-functional leadership including Optical architecture, engineering, quality, and business teams to determine best design solution and supply base to deliver that solution at optimal COS, and TCO.Own the Metro, Long-Haul, Subsea, and DWDM sourcing process, partnering with product engineering teams on high visibility technology developments and delivery of innovative solutions.Lead industry initiatives, industry standards, and innovate on business models to deliver best in cloud solutions. Define Request for Information (RFIs), Proposals (RFPs), and Quotations (RFQs) activities and conduct negotiations with suppliersManage contracting activities with Legal team and ensure contracts reflect appropriate business terms, intellectual property (IP) protection, etc.Cost and operations management:

Build multi-sourcing strategies to mitigate risk and drive appropriate competition.Identify cost reduction opportunities and drive supplier competition with cost modelling and other sourcing tools.Support programs through the development, New Product Introduction (NPI), and sustaining phases to ensure continued optimization, parts availability, and contract readiness.Run weekly, monthly, quarter review with team on cost and operations key performance indicators (KPIs).Manage supplier performance and compliance

Create and deliver supplier relationship management strategy.Drive RFQs and supplier award process through a cross-functional analysis around supplier capabilities.Develop and enable introduction of new suppliers.Oversee compliance with MSFT requirements for security, social responsibility, and payment terms.Ensure suppliers deliver timely corrective actions from business review / audits.



Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 4+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related rolesOR Master's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 3+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related rolesOR equivalent experience.4+ years of experience in technical sourcing, business development, field application engineering, sales, product line management, or in fields requiring technical & business acumen.3+ years experience in optics/optical hardware.Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in engineering, business, or closely related field.Storytelling and influencing skills with a track record of developing and nurturing key stakeholder relationships.Thrives in a dynamic and fast paced environment.Sourcing Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
