As part of the Cloud Infrastructure Acquisition (CIA) organization, the Energy Team supports datacenter interconnection, energy supply contracts, and/or renewable energy and/or carbon removal contracts with utilities and renewable energy developers. Additionally, the team leads regulatory and policy strategy development with utilities, regulators, and stakeholders important to datacenter and clean energy infrastructure delivery. Advancing Environmental Justice (EJ) and supporting and equitable energy transition is a core component of the team’s work.

Model and analyze energy supply agreements, electric power markets, and financial forecasts needed to support power sourcing strategies in the United States to ensure optimized power costs, and support regular business reporting to finance, legal, and other infrastructure, planning and acquisition teams.Support the negotiation of energy supply agreements and electric tariffs to secure power infrastructure while also delivering on Microsoft’s sustainability commitments.Support data center energy initiatives through due diligence and internal business reviews.Support the Renewable Energy Origination, CDR Origination, Asset Management and Risk teams with the ongoing management of a large portfolio of renewable energy and carbon removal contracts.Route, track, review, and monitor key contracts, agreements, and other instruments needed to support our energy and carbon removal strategy.Support Environmental Justice initiatives, including energy and carbon removal procurement, policy and regulatory engagement, partnership and stakeholder management, and impact evaluation and tracking.



Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Master's or MBA Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.

Experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles.

Must have at least one additional quarter/term of school remaining following the completion of the internship.Preferred Qualifications:

Interest and/or experience in renewable energy, carbon removal, utilities, energy, power markets, electricity procurement, carbon free energy, environmental justice etc.Pursuing Degree in the Energy & Sustainability field of study and/or directly applicable work experience in the fields of Energy and Sustainability.

The base pay range for this internship is USD $6,550 - $12,880 per month. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $8,480 - $13,920 per month.
