This Principal Sourcing Engineer - Devices of Tier 1 strategic sourcing position will help strengthen Microsoft’s hardware capabilities by leading strategies that deliver meaningful business advantages.
We’re seeking candidates with deep expertise in contract manufacturing and ODM services, comprehensive knowledge of supply chain operations, and end-to-end product development lifecycle experience. This role involves regular engagement with senior executives, business acumen, strategic thinking, and industry insight are essential.
Success in this role will be measured by the definition and execution of Tier 1 strategy, competitiveness of negotiated manufacturing and service costs, strength of business relationships, and performance of Tier 1 partners.
Sourcing Strategy: you will have responsibility for participating in the development and deployment of the Tier 1 vendor short and long-term sourcing strategy in order to achieve world class services with best-in-class pricing and terms. You will be responsible for driving and articulating the strategy discussions with Microsoft’s senior executives and business partners. Externally, you’ll be responsible to sell a scenario that entices the world’s most successful manufacturing and service providers to deliver world-class results by establishing long-term, productive business relationships. An ability to aggressively manage total costs while enabling the right level of service and flexibility is imperative Excellent people management and leadership skills are critical to create and communicate a vision for the future, motivate and develop team members to adapt and execute in order to meet the dynamic demands of our growing hardware business. Organizational Leadership: Collaborate and coordinate with cross-functional teams and other Sourcing leaders to ensure our strategy includes all appropriate business opportunities and to drive strategy adoption towards alignment of the supplier roadmap. Account Management: Lead and manage global account relationships with executive and senior management levels from CM/ODM companies as well as provide strategic business leadership, negotiations management, and execution of regular business reviews. Business Development: In new hardware or technology spaces, drive supplier selection through initiation of discussions, negotiation of master contracts and non-disclosure agreements, and work with the product development teams to assess technological and manufacturing capabilities and overall ‘fit’ for Microsoft. Execution: Drive budget compliance while maintaining solid relationships with internal teams as well as manufacturing service providers.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 6+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles OR Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 8+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles OR equivalent experience.Preferred Qualifications:
10+ years’ experience in strategic sourcing in Commercial manufacturing industry. Expertise in market analysis and sourcing planning to dissect market size, players, customers, growth, technology replacements/forecasts, pricing trends, etc. to formulate sourcing strategies.
Expertise in Financial Statement Analysis to derive should-cost models and cost competitiveness/financial strengths of suppliers before RFx is conducted. Bottom’s up process costing utilizing Activity Based Costing and other methodologies to build should-cost models. Professional experiences in “owned” factory operations and cost accounting. Make vs. Buy experiences a plus. Project management and Supply Chain Operation’s Management experiences. Ability to assess and improve total landed cost through supply chain analysis from component supply base through to distribution. Solid experience in complex, large contract and price negotiations. Executive presence and professionalism with the ability to crisply articulate positions and build rapport quickly. Demonstrated Traits/Behaviors High ambition to grow with Microsoft. Demonstrated ability to successfully navigate through ambiguity and challenging obstacles through the gathering of facts, evaluation of alternatives, a growth mindset, well thought strategies, and superior communications to lead cross-functional organizations through sourcing activities. Ability to both quantify and qualify situations. Proficient communicator, motivator and team leader to unlock new value in an organization. Demonstrated ability to think strategically but detail-oriented to support ideology with facts. Ability to articulate points of view with executive management but execute plans when directed. A team player who can roll-up his/her sleeves to get the job done.
Sourcing Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
