Description

The Windows App Engineering team is revolutionizing how customers interact with Windows. The Windows App, launched recently, offering customers a beautiful, modern and consistent way to experience Windows from any OS or platform be it Web, iOS, macOS, Android and of course Windows. Customers can use the Windows App from any device, such as a PC, laptop, tablet, phone, or even a VR headset! The Windows App team is looking for a Principal Software Engineering Manager to continue of building beautiful interfaces and experiences for our customers.

As a Principal Software Engineering Manager for the “Windows App for Web” team, you will bring a “like local” Windows experience to world’s most widely used app platform– the web browser, from the world’s largest cloud – the Microsoft Cloud. Guide - Guide your team on engineering design and architecture including fault tolerant design, security, privacy and accessibility.Attract and nurture talent - Understand each team member’s capabilities and aspirations and invest in their growth by connecting them with opportunities, being a coach and modeling by example.Instill a culture of engineering excellence – Identify and help apply the best practices such as thoughtful design, coding standards, monitoring (metrics, alerts, logs) test automation and customer supportability (telemetry and diagnostics).Operational excellence - Guide team towards On Call Engineering (OCE) practices, incident response to handle degradation, downtime, or interruptions in the service.Demonstrate curiosity and a growth mindset – Identify skills are needed to be successful and ensure that your team remains current by investing time and effort into learning.One Microsoft - Build and maintain partnerships with key partners across Microsoft, including cross-disciplinary collaboration (e.g.: PM, Design, Compliance, etc.)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.Experience with the Chromium open-source platform or similar web browser platforms or similar technologies.Experience with web applications/frameworks languages such as React.js, TypeScript/JavaScript.Other Requirements

Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements that are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.4+ years people management experience.Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
