We are looking for a Principal Software Engineering Manager who loves technological challenges and problem solving, and is passionate about building well-designed, scalable, reliable services and user experience. We need a leader who is a self-starter and likes to learn every day. As a member of our team, you will participate in all stages of our engineering lifecycle - from initial research and discovery, quick iteration on promising concepts, solution prototyping, designing and delivering features end to end - including system architecture, code, deployment, scale, performance and quality; all the way through successful service roll out and live site support. As part of this role, you will collaborate closely with multiple teams to deliver key customer solutions and the technology to support them. Lead the team in planning, scoping objectives, laying out execution plan and delivering results swiftly without compromising quality.Provide hands-on technical leadership to the software engineering teams on architecture, design, development and live site.Partner with Product Management and Azure product groups to meet immediate and longer-term objectives.Ability to establish and manage priorities in a fast paced, rapidly evolving environment.Build a productive engineering team by hiring and retaining top talent.Knowledge of design patterns and application development practices.Cross-group collaboration, decision-making and conflict resolution skills.Desire to coach team members, creating opportunities tailored to their career aspirations.Deep understanding of agile principles and ability in implementing hybrid development models.Qualifications
Required/Minimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
OR equivalent experience.4+ years of experience with distributed systems and a cloud technology stack such as Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS)Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript,or PythonOR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.4+ years people management experience.Expertise in one or more web application dev frameworks (e.g., Angular, React, etc.)Proven track record of technical leadership and experience in shipping high quality products or servicesWorking knowledge of agile software development methodologies and tools that enable these, such as GitHub, Azure DevOps, etc. Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
