The team works on Data Collection, Control, Correlation/Distributed Tracing, Curation, Metrics, Health and System Intelligence.

As the Principal Software Engineering Manager you will lead a team of engineers to build mission critical C++ and .NET telemetry clients used by the largest of the organizations in the world to monitor their applications, which span across devices and services. You work on the industry standard, embrace open-source software development, and drive the architecture design, engagement, and implementation in OSS community. Your work covers distributed tracing, device management, metrics and log processing, data privacy, data reliability. Your customers will include the largest organizations inside Microsoft (including Azure, Office, Windows, etc.), as well as major customers who are using Microsoft’s products. You are collaborative and work constructively across functions and groups to solve customer problems. You will contribute to a positive culture, where all members of your team and partner teams can do their best work, creating an advantage out of our diverse set of backgrounds, style, and skill sets. Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

o OR equivalent experience.

6+ years of software development industry experience with proven record of end-to-end delivery of production components. Experience with production level cloud development using one of the major cloud providers.

Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with a technical leadership role (architect, project lead, tech lead, etc.) is preferred. Problem-solving and leadership skills, drive for results, and ability to work independently. Experience contributing or maintaining OSS projects.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
