Within Azure Data, the big data analytics team provides a range of products that enable data engineers and data scientists to extract intelligence from all data – structured, semi-structured, and unstructured. We build the Data Engineering, Data Science, and Data Integration pillars of Microsoft Fabric.
The Spark Runtime is focused on making Fabric the best place to run Spark workloads. We are looking for a Principal Engineering Manager to effectively lead a critical component of the Spark Runtime team. Your challenge will be to improve the reliability and performance of Spark.
The customer base for Spark is sophisticated and deeply understands their requirements. You will partner with PMs to ensure that customers are successful using Spark with Fabric and your component is optimized to do so.

Lead a team of passionate engineers to deliver success for customers Hands-on involvement in designing, implementing, testing, and operating data services. Release features on time, with high quality, meeting functional, performance, scalability, and compliance requirements. Partner with PMs and architects to drive quality right from the spec and design phase while incorporating best practices and engineering for testability. Solve problems relating to mission critical services and create solutions that address the root cause.Participate in product live site and operations. Model, Coach, and Care to grow our team to deliver on the goal above .Embody our culture and values
Qualifications
Required/Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science/ Engineering/ Mathematics/ Physics/ IT related technical discipline and 10+ years of software engineering industry experience.5+ years of programming experience in C OR C++.5+ years of leading organizations and managing teams to successfully deliver innovation in database systems.Other Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Preferred/Additional Qualifications
Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.6+ years people management experience.Ideal candidates would have hands on experience with query execution or data management components of a database.Experience in iteratively improving the performance of a database engine.Work on performance optimizations , on disk and networking issues and on database systemsSoftware Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $163,000 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.
