We're expanding our development team to deliver the most affordable cloud-based storage in the world. The Azure Archive Storage service offers secure, cost-effective, and energy-conscious storage capable of preserving exabytes of data for decades, optimizing the interplay between software and underlying storage hardware.
We're seeking software engineers to help us achieve our vision of meeting growing global demand for cloud storage far into the future. As part of this role, you'll join an experienced engineering team to build and refine a cloud service with unique algorithmic and scalability challenges. You will work primarily at the service and application layers while partnering closely with hardware and firmware teams to ensure the system holistically accommodates hardware capabilities and constraints. You’ll make significant contributions towards enabling our next-generation archival storage platforms by translating hardware and firmware needs into scalable, reliable cloud service designs. Responsibilities
Partners with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of scenarios, including close collaboration with hardware and firmware partners to align service behavior with platform capabilitiesLeads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents and feature implementation for Azure Archive Storage Service, focusing on application- and service-layer solutions that integrate with lower-level storage interfacesMentors others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across productsProvide insights which influence team direction and product designLeverages subject-matter expertise of cross-product features with appropriate stakeholders to drive multiple group's project plans, release plans, and work itemsHolds accountability as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers across products/solutions, working on-call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptionsProactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and shares knowledge with other engineers
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experienceOther Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafterPreferred Qualifications:Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experienceExposure and experience in building systems that understand storage constructsKnowledge in storage media technology or experience with SCSI interfaces and drivers6+ years programming experience in developing products and services, preferably in systems and backend, with a focus on application- and service-layer developmentExperience in scalable distributed servicesAbility to work with hardware and firmware teams to deliver end-to-end solutions#azurecorejobs
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
