Description

Microsoft's Substrate is a massively scaled service that forms the backbone of M365 offerings. Our services empower businesses, educational institutions, governments, and individuals worldwide, representing more than a billion users.

The Workload Management (WLM) team under M365 is responsible for managing execution of millions of background and system tasks for M365 backend servers. We are applying various technologies to maximize resource utilization while ensuing end user experiences are not impacted by keeping the giant system running in a stable and efficient way. We are driving continuous improvement towards integrated and intelligent automated operations.

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to innovate and accelerate Substrate WLM functionality.

Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve software components, services, systems, and features in large scale, distributed cloud environment. Prototype, build and propose innovative new ways of improving services and components at scale. Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products. Work with peer engineers, partner teams and program managers across regions to deliver cutting edge monitoring service. Resolve problems of any scope and aid other team members on a consistent basis. Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Additional or Preferred Qualifications

8+ years relevant work experiences in one or more general purpose programming languages (e.g., C#, Java, C/C++, Python etc.).Experience in backend technologies or deep understanding of storage operations.Experience in machine Learning/Artifical Intelligence model training or application.Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
