The AI Platform organization at Microsoft builds the end-to-end Azure AI stack/PaaS and is core to Azure’s innovation and differentiation, as well as all of Microsoft’s flagship products, from Office to Teams, to Xbox. We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join the team building Azure OpenAI, Azure ML, Cognitive Services, and the global Azure AI infrastructure for running the largest AI workloads on the planet.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience2+ years of experience developing and operating low latency, high scale online services optimizing for single- and double-digit millisecond latencies 3+ years of C/C++ and/or Python development

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

Low-level experience with optimized serving on python using async frameworks such as gevent, starlite, fast API Low-level experience working with protocols including TCP, HTTP2, GRPC Low level experience configuring and running proxies and gateways such as Envoy, Azure API Management Gateway and scripting languages like LUA Knowledge and experience in OSS, Docker, Kubernetes, Python, GOLANG, Rust programming languages   Experience serving deep learning AI models at scale especially LLMs and Diffusion modelsExperience in distributed computing and architectureGood communication, collaboration skills and a great team player Experience working in a geo-distributed team

Software Engineering IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year.
