If so, this Principal Software Engineer role with the Microsoft Turing team may be a great fit for you!

The Microsoft Turing team is an innovative engineering and research team working on state-of-the-art deep learning models, with projects across the entire deep learning life cycle. The team spearheads the platform and innovation for Copilot experiences across Microsoft’s ecosystem including Office, Edge and Windows.

In addition, the team works on improving experiences across Microsoft’s products and services by working on high value scenarios. The Turing team has shipped capabilities across many Microsoft scenarios including AutoSuggest, semantic search in Edge Browser and Microsoft Word, quick reply on Outlook, Smart Compose features in Word, image enhancement models, recommendations, enterprise search capabilities for Microsoft Sharepoint as well as many other features across Office, Bing, and Xbox.

These new experiences are powered by a large-scale deep learning-based enterprise search and question-answering systems, which process billions-to-trillions of data items and serve millions of end users in millisecond latency.

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer with a variety of skills and areas of expertise, from backend infrastructure of large-scale systems to microservices and front-end development. As a Principal Software Engineer on our team, you'll be responsible for and will engage in:

Driving projects from design through implementation, experimentation and finally shipping to our users.

Building large-scale high-performant distributed system to improve experience across Microsoft products.

Design system through well-defined interfaces across multiple components, code reviews, leveraging data/telemetry to make decisions.

Develop “best-in-class” engineering for our services by ensuring that the services and the components are well-defined and modularized, secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively monitored and reusable. 

Gain a working understanding of Microsoft as a business and collaborate with mentors and leaders in order to contribute to cohesive, end-to-end experiences for our users.

Working with big data by training, extending, and shipping the capability of deep learning models to provide compelling experiences across our products.

Working in a diverse geographically distributed team environment where collaboration and innovation are valued. You will have an opportunity for direct impact on design, functionality, security, performance, scalability, manageability, and supportability of Microsoft products that use our deep learning technology.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience. 6+ years of commercial systems level software development experience, with one or more of the following: Distributed Systems, Information Retrieval and/or Data Mining, Machine Learning fundamentals. Additional or Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience. Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
