Our varied backgrounds and unique experiences enable us to be better at building the best solutions for our customers and make for dynamic and joyful collaborations with colleagues!The Mixed Reality Core OS Software team has an immediate opening for a highly motivated Senior Software Engineer with a deep understanding of Android/Linux OS Kernel, HAL, and System Service layers. This individual will require solid software development skills to build performant and reliable drivers and services for our devices. We are the team that develops the foundational software that breathes life into our Mixed Reality hardware, enabling our AI, Runtimes, and Experience teams to collectively create delightful and engaging user experiences.

Gather and analyze system requirements, document specifications, and develop software solutions to meet device requirements Develop efficient and robust system software for highly dependable systems Conduct post-implementation validation of software and address any defects identified during testing. Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to identify and resolve system problems Integrating, testing, and debugging third-party solutions and collaboration with Independent Hardware Vendors (IHVs) Embody our Culture and Values
Qualifications
Required QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience4 + years' experience in C/C++ design and coding skills.2+ Years Experience in implementing low level software for Linux or Android. (System Services, Android Runtime, Hardware Abstraction Layer, etc.)
Other Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This role will require access to information that is controlled for export under export control regulations, potentially under the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations or Export Administration Regulations, the EU Dual Use Regulation, and/or other export control regulations. Additional or Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.Experience working with cross discipline engineering teams to balance and coordinate product decisions. Familiarity with tools to optimize power and performance Familiarity with pre-boot environments such as UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface)Familiarity with implementing firmware for embedded devices and low-level protocols (i.e. I2C, UART, SPI, USB, PCIE etc.) Bring a passion for growth and innovation, adapt to new challenges with creativity and continuous improvement.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
