Responsibilities
• Work on Requirements: Work with the Product and Engineering team members to design and develop large scale distributed software services and solutions.
• Work on Design: System design through well-defined interfaces across multiple components, code reviews, leveraging data/telemetry to make decisions, facilitate design reviews
• Work on Implementation: Develop “best-in-class” engineering for our services by ensuring that the services and the components are well-defined and modularized, secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively monitored and reusable.
• Work on Quality: Improve test coverage for services, organize and implement integration tests, and resolve problem areas.
• Work on Deployment: Consider testability, portability/monitoring, reliability, and maintainability, and understand when code is ready to be shared and delivered.
• Work with Customer in mind: Gain a working understanding of Microsoft businesses and collaborate with mentors and leaders to contribute to cohesive, end-to-end experiences for our users.
• Work on Operations: Troubleshoot and optimize automation, reliability, and monitoring for Live Site.
• Work with AI: Accelerate responsible AI adoption across engineering (AI-assisted design, coding, testing, and operations); establish best practices, guardrails, and success metrics to measurably improve outcomes.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 
• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
Preferred Qualifications:
4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to: C/C++, Golang, Rust, C# OR equivalent experience
8+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in (not limited) C++, C#, Java, Go, Rust; OR equivalent experience. Experience building global distributed services • Understanding of networking and network security fundamentals, including TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, TLS, routing, and proxy-based architectures. Hands on experience with developing and running services on Linux / Unix environments Hands-on experience with AI as a user and as developer: LLMs, Azure OpenAI, MCP, RAG, Agents is a plus Hands-on experience with IAM, IdPs, OAuth, etc is a plus • Hands-on experience with high-performance datapaths and L7 proxies (e.g., Envoy, NGINX, HAProxy) and/or packet processing (e.g., eBPF, DPDK, XDP) is a plus Hands on experience with K8s, containers and deployment pipelines is a plus
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
