Within Azure Data, the messaging and real-time analytics team provides comprehensive solutions and a robust platform that enables users to ingest high granularity signals (real-time & observability) and complex data, converting those into a competitive advantage in real-time for both end users and modern applications.  
Azure Stream Analytics (ASA) is Microsoft’s fully managed, mission‑critical streaming analytics service that powers real‑time insights for customers across IoT, observability, security, and business intelligence scenarios. ASA is a foundational component of Microsoft Fabric’s real‑time analytics stack and plays a key role in enabling customers to process, query, and act on high‑volume streaming data with low latency and high reliability.
We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to provide cross-team technical leadership across ASA's control plane, data plane (language and runtime), and adapter team, while also driving deep collaboration with cross-teams working on Microsoft Fabric Eventstream.
In this role, you will work closely with multiple engineering teams, program management, partner teams to define technical direction, unblock complex cross-system challenges bringing clarity to ambiguous space, raising engineering bar, mentoring engineers, shaping future of stream processing.

Responsibilities
Provide technical and architectural leadership across Azure Stream Analytics control plane, data plane and adapter, helping to shape real time analytics platform within Microsoft Fabric. Drive cross-team initiatives across Messaging and real-time analytics teams, ensuring aligned design decisions, shared ownership of outcomes and smooth delivery of end-to-end customer scenarios. Serve as trusted technical partner to product management and partner teams translating customer and business needs into clear engineering/architectural choices and execution plans. Raise engineering bar, setting high standards for design quality, improve quality gates, deployment speed while balancing near term delivery Mentor and develop engineers across teams, helping others grow their technical judgment, system thinking and ability to work effectively across organizational boundaries. Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.Job Requirements: Other & Additional

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications
Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.5+ years of experience in cloud service development.#azdat, #azuredata, #analytics
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
