Overview

Join the Platforms, Applications, Cloud & Engineering (PACE) team and help transform the ITAR Escort experience across U.S. Government clouds, including DoD, GCC, GCC High, and ITAR environments.

ITAR Escorts are approved and authorized individuals who supervise and accompany U.S. persons accessing ITAR‑controlled data, systems, and environments, ensuring strict compliance with export control regulations.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design and build software that improves the day‑to‑day experience for workload engineers operating in U.S. Government cloud environments, with a strong focus on security, automation, and usability.

Responsibilities

Lead and document architecture proposals for Escort Agents and related services; drive design reviews with clear trade‑offs across reliability, security, and cost.Design, develop, and operate scalable, secure services in Azure, with clean abstractions and testable components.Raise the engineering bar through code reviews and mentoring that improve readability, performance, and adherence to team standards.Embed Security-by-Design: apply threat modeling, least privilege, secure coding practices, and enforce compliance constraints for ITAR/SFI scenarios.Own CI/CD: design build, test, and release pipelines with quality gates, security checks, staged rollouts, and safe‑deployment practices.Run in production: participate in on‑call, perform incident response and RCA, define SLOs/SLIs, add telemetry/logging/traces, and use data to drive reliability/performance improvements.Collaborate across SRE, Security, and Compliance to align designs, unblock dependencies, and improve developer experience.Communicate clearly: author design docs, run technical deep dives, and share risks and decisions with stakeholders.Utilize AI & Microsoft ToolingLeverage Microsoft Copilot(s) to accelerate design exploration, code generation, test authoring, and documentation while maintaining review rigor and security boundaries.Use Azure AI services to build or integrate intelligent features prompt engineering, grounding with enterprise data, and quality/latency tuning.Automate with AI-assisted workflows in pipelines and operations with human-in-the-loop approvals.Adopt responsible AI practicesMeasure impact: track productivity and quality signals and iterate on adoption playbooks for the team.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience. Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and deployment models.Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automation frameworks. Preferred Qualifications:At least Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND senior-level technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, JavaAdvanced expertise in Azure (App Services, AKS, Functions, Cosmos DB, Storage, Key Vault, Azure Front Door, API Management) and production-grade distributed systems design (resiliency, scalability, cost efficiency).Security-by-design mindset: threat modeling, least-privilege access, secure coding practices, secrets management, dependency hygiene; familiarity with SFI, Shift Left security, and compliance workflows in regulated environments (e.g., ITAR, GCC/GCCH/DoD).Hands-on with observability: telemetry design, tracing, metrics/SLOs, log pipelines; using tools such as Kusto (KQL) to analyze reliability and performance.Proven experience operating services in production (on-call rotations, incident response, RCA, corrective/preventive actions) and driving operational excellence.Solid skills in CI/CD (GitHub Actions/Azure DevOps), automated quality gates, secure supply chain (SBOM, signing), blue/green & canary strategies, and infrastructure as code (Bicep/Terraform).Practical knowledge of containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes/AKS), including networking, ingress, and workload identity.Experience designing and reviewing service architecture and APIs; ability to document trade-offs and lead design reviews.Proficiency with AI & Microsoft tooling to accelerate engineering: M365 Copilot and GitHub Copilot for code, tests, and documentation.Experience with performance engineering: capacity planning, load testing, cache design, latency optimization.Solid collaboration and influence skills: mentoring, code reviews, cross-team alignment with SRE/Security/Compliance/PM; clear written design docs and stakeholder communication.#SeniorSoftwareEngineer #PACE #Engineering
