The Engineering Scale Solutions (ESS) team at Microsoft Specialized Cloud (MSC) is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with a passion for security and a results-driven mindset.
At ESS, we build technologies that embed security from the start. Our mission is to deliver solutions that scale critical security practices, such as static analysis, attack surface detection, and fuzzing, so developers and customers can innovate securely.
Within ESS, the Automated Security Tooling & Analysis (ASTA) team creates platforms that empower both offensive and defensive security teams to operate faster, smarter, and at-scale. We design and deliver automation that reduces manual effort and accelerates security workflows. Our portfolio includes solutions like Attack Surface Inventory (ASI), which proactively detects new exposures, the moment they appear and enables automated remediationāhelping organizations to stay ahead of evolving threats.
Responsibilities
Design and deliver scalable products in a DevOps environment.Lead architecture decisions and drive process improvements.Serve as DRI for system monitoring and reliability. Collaborate across teams and with security researchers to build solutions that accelerate and scale security workflows.Ensure system reliability through monitoring, telemetry, and code reviews.Opportunity to identify and implement AI-driven approaches to reduce toil, improve coverage, and accelerate security outcomes at scale.Drive process improvements and optimize service efficiency.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience. Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with one or more general purpose programming languages including, but not limited to: C#, Java, Python.Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals and secure coding practices. Experience building and deploying services to cloud services (Azure preferred).Enjoy discovering and solving problems; proactively seeking clarification of requirements and direction; being a self-starter who takes responsibility and drives consensus.Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices. Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and working independently.A willingness to learn, share, and improve.Learn and apply new skills in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
