OverviewJoin the Azure Compute Hardware Platform Innovation team and help shape the future of cloud computing at hyperscale. We work on systems that combine cutting-edge hardware with advanced virtualization technologies to power Azure’s global infrastructure.
As a Software Engineer in Azure Compute, you’ll work at the intersection of hardware and software, analyzing and improving performance for Azure Virtual Machines and underlying hardware platforms. Our team spans a wide range of expertise—from low-level architecture to virtualization, operating systems, and programming languages—giving you the opportunity to grow and make a real impact.
In this role, you will:
Define and validate hardware and virtualization technologies that power Azure. Collaborate with partners and customers to deliver innovative solutions and improve efficiency at scale. Contribute to the architecture of next-generation systems, solving challenges that impact millions of users worldwide.
Responsibilities
Work with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements and dependencies. Characterize the performance of hardware components and platforms, and optimize systems for performance and reliability. Build and improve automation to support performance characterization, lab and scale testing, and onboarding of new hardware platforms. Create and implement code for a product, service, or feature reusing code as applicable. Assist and learn about breaking down work items into tasks and provide estimation. Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) in monitoring system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions for simple problems, and recommends actions to restore system/product/service by following the playbook. Review current developments and proactively seek new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor Science Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline OR equivalent experience. Understanding system architecture/hardware, operating systems, networking, large-scale distributed systems, or software performance analysis. Demonstrated experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, Rust or Python Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, Rust or Python OR equivalent experience.
