Description

With the continued development of new breakthrough artificial intelligence (AI) models, the Azure Core team is growing to deliver the underlying platform that the next generation of AI models will run on top of! The Azure Core team is hiring engineers to join agile and diverse engineering teams in the Host Networking and Hardware Acceleration team.

As a Software Engineer in the Host Networking and Hardware Acceleration team, you will contribute to the Azure host networking infrastructure by designing on and releasing agents into Azure carrying hardware and software components providing reliable and performant networking for the current and next generations of Azure hosts. You will also deliver Network Interface Card (NIC) servicing software for AI and other Azure workloads.

An ideal candidate will have a passion for service-oriented architecture, distributed systems, low-level programming, operating system (OS) internals, virtualization, large-scale systems, performant design, hardware offloads, and test methodologies, and this opportunity will allow you to deepen your skills in these areas. • Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a feature.• Supports identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product feature with oversight.

• With guidance, learns to create and implement code for a product, service, or feature reusing code as applicable.

• Assists and learns about breaking down work items into tasks and provides estimation.

• Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) in monitoring system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions for simple problems, and recommends actions to restore system/product/service by following the playbook.

• Reviews current developments and proactively seeks new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.



Qualifications

Required QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical disciplineOR equivalent experience. Proven experience coding in C, C++, Rust, or PythonOther Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, Rust, or PythonOR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, Rust, or Python,OR equivalent experience.

Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $84,200 - $165,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $109,000 - $180,400 per year.
