Description
Azure is a global cloud platform that enables individuals and organizations to achieve more. In addition to public cloud offerings, Azure also supports large-scale internal Microsoft services such as Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office, Bing, Structured Query Language (SQL), and others. Capacity management—including workload allocation, access provisioning, and buffer maintenance—is essential to Azure’s success. To further invest in this area, we are expanding our efforts in Redmond, Washington, and seeking software engineers, data engineers, and data scientists to help enhance Azure Core’s platform capacity management and efficiency.We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the Azure Compute Capacity Optimization Team (ACCOT). In this role, you will contribute to the development of scalable capacity management services and efficiency solutions. You will work on foundational components of the Azure Control Plane, including the Azure Allocator and the Holmes service, which manage workload migration across Azure data centers. You will also engage with central capacity management systems such as Compute Capacity Central (CCC), collaborating with partner teams to track and manage capacity usage, maintain buffers, and deliver telemetry insights. Your work will help ensure workloads are allocated and migrated efficiently within and across data centers.
As part of the Azure Core team, you will collaborate with experienced software engineers, data engineers, and data scientists to solve impactful challenges. You will build services that improve customer experience and platform efficiency, while driving enhancements in availability, scalability, and operability. Design and develop distributed cloud software services that are engineered for scale, availability, high performance, and high reliability.Own and deliver complete features including design, architecture, implementation, testability, debugging, and shipping.Collaborate with partner teams across the world to drive key Azure Core Allocator capabilities.Deliver high quality of service to Azure customers through live-site excellence.Lead the end-to-end development lifecycle, from initial concept and requirements gathering to production deployment and ongoing support.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.4+ years software engineering experience with C#, Java, and/or C++4+ years software engineering experience in multi-threaded, asynchronous, and/or systems programming, and object-oriented design fundamentals.1+ year(s) of experience with cloud-scale applications and live services Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science OR related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR PythonOR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.Experience leading teams/projects that maintain live services.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
