The Java Engineering Group in the Developer Division is responsible for building best-in-class support for Java workloads running on Azure (Microsoft’s Cloud) and other Microsoft services.

We performance tune Java applications and services at massive scale, build insightful performance diagnostic tooling, work on the Java Virtual Machine (VM) itself and act as a liaison between Microsoft and the wider Java ecosystem.

Our Java VM Engineering team is looking for a Senior Compiler Engineer who has a passion for learning new technologies, interacting with colleagues and customers, and a strong desire to make the work of Java users and developers more productive, satisfying, and enjoyable.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.4+ years of experience working on compilers6+ months of experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, or similar) to enhance productivity and code qualityExperience applying AI technologies (such as large language models or code generation tools) in software development workflows, including tasks like static analysis, automated documentation, or test generationOther Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
