We are the Modern Windows Validation team within the Windows Servicing and Delivery (WSD) organization—at the core of WSD’s mission to deliver innovation and updates that keep Microsoft customers secure, productive, and delighted. Our team ensures the reliability, performance, and quality of Windows by building intelligent validation infrastructure, integrating AI agents, and enabling real-time insights through modern engineering practices.

We are also actively transforming legacy validation systems into modern, scalable platforms—enhancing execution agility, reliability, and dynamic coverage across the Windows ecosystem. From OS internals to cloud-powered dashboards, we validate and accelerate the delivery of Windows to consumers, enterprises, and Microsoft Cloud customers.

We are seeking seeking an innovative Software Engineer II and Senior Software Engineer to help us push the boundaries of performance and reliability. As a Software Engineer on our team, you’ll collaborate with product teams and engineers to build scalable validation systems, leverage OpenAI APIs, and shape the future of Windows quality. Design and implement scalable solutions using OpenAI APIs and AI agents to enhance system intelligence and automation. Build and maintain validation infrastructure to ensure quality, reliability, and performance of services and platforms. Develop and optimize modern applications on Azure using microservices, containers, and serverless technologies.Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight. Helps to identify other teams and technologies that will be leveraged, how they will interact, and when one's system may provide support to others. Contributes to determining back-end dependencies associated with product, application, service, or platform functionality for product features.  Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable. Writes and learns to create code that is extensible and maintainable. Considers diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability with few defects, and understands when the code is ready to be shared and delivered. Applies coding patterns and best practices to write code. Creates a clear and articulated plan for testing and assuring quality of solutions, and defines success for outcomes of tests (e.g., unit tests). Adds new tests, removes antiquated tests, and aggregates tests to improve tests in the feature area. Helps to drive efforts for augmenting test cases and ensures that the solution area has good test coverage. Helps to integrate automation features when planning for testing. Identifies areas to efforts to integrate instrumentation for gathering telemetry data on system behavior such as performance, reliability, availability, usage, and safety mechanisms. Contributes to sustaining feedback loops from telemetry resulting in subsequent designs. Helps to create outputs of telemetry such as notifications or dashboards.  Embody our culture and values



Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.Hands-on experience with OpenAI APIs or similar LLM-based platforms.

Hands-on experience with Windows operating system internals.

Hands-on experience building cloud-native applications on Azure.

Hands-on experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., Cosmos DB, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to C, C++, C# or JavaScript (C++ preferred). OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to C, C++, C# JavaScript (C++ preferred) OR equivalent experience. 2+ years of industry experience in software development, testing, deploying, operating, and supporting medium to large scale services. 

Experience with AI agent frameworks (e.g., Semantic Kernel, LangChain).

Familiarity with observability tools and live dashboards (e.g., Azure Monitor, Grafana, Power BI).

Functional knowledge of test-driven development and CI/CD pipelines.

Proven track record in building or maintaining validation/test infrastructure.Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
