Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.
In the cloud-based world, running our Azure service reliably and efficiently is key to Microsoft's growth and future. Azure SQL is one of the biggest services hosted by Azure. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team. This role involves guiding and driving component teams in building a reliable service using the right data, telemetry, monitoring, observability, and automation tools. The successful candidate will be expected to make data-driven decisions to efficiently monitor and improve service reliability with good project management and communication skills. This is an excellent opportunity for a software engineer who is passionate about service reliability, loves to dive deep into complex systems, and is adept at working with large-scale cloud database services.

Act as subject matter expert for configuring, troubleshooting, and monitoring Azure Database/Managed Instance services. Identify opportunities and implement automation to resolve and reduce live-site incidents. Own, triage, investigate, and resolve service issues with emphasis on broad communications, learning, and teaching throughout the process. Interact with customers, spanning from technical to executive level, responding to escalations from support or service outages. Drive initiatives and projects across the organization. Ability to meet on-call responsibilities periodically. Embody our culture and values
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experienceExperience with Software Development Life Cycle concept, such as Project planning, design/function document written, SCRUM, Development/Coding, Testing, Build/Deployment and Monitoring etcExperience with Azure DevOps or Github Other RequirementsAbility to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Preferred/Additional Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python 4+ years of deep knowledge of T-SQL and SQL Server with highly scalable cloud services AND
Proficiency in writing Kusto queries AND AI/ML knowledge is a PLUS Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
