Description
The Microsoft AI (MAI) is looking for Senior Software Engineer for the Spartan team with full-stack engineering experience. MAI encompasses Microsoft’s web-facing technology: including Copilot, Bing search, MSN news and weather and our Advertising platform - all delivered through a large variety of platforms including web browsers, Windows, Office products, Edge and even Xbox. The Spartans is a specialized team of elite engineers that serve as cross-cutting experts and force multipliers throughout MAI - helping to make the highest priority projects a success. There is never a dull project in our portfolio; we are simply always working on the most strategic areas of Copilot, Bing, Ads, News, Weather etc. Our expertise runs the gamut including UX, scalable backend services, Large Language Models (LLM) prompt engineering, data engineering and ML/AI.If a faced-paced environment where you’re continuously learning and working on the latest technology sounds exciting, MAI Spartans may be the role for you!

Ramp up on new products and features quickly while championing best practices across the organization.Foster a culture of inclusivity and disciplined software engineering practices to deliver business value, guided by data.Design and implement production-quality features that are simple, extensible, and maintainable with very few defects.Be an eager student and practitioner of software engineering best practices – both technical (i.e., immutability, single responsibility, TDD, refactoring as a regular habit, etc.) and process-oriented (small and single purpose PR’s, thorough and thoughtful code reviews, clear and testable acceptance criteria, etc.)Lead projects end to end along with Spartans, coordinate with partner teams.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.Experience with OOP, TDD, and agile development models.Experience in implementing cross-browser web applications.Other Requirements:
Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements that are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.Experience with React, Web Components, JavaScript, CSS, ASP.NET, Node.js, REST APIs is highly desirable.Experience with cloud computing architectures and services (Microsoft Azure, AWS or GCP) is highly desirable.Experience with Large Language Model prompt engineering.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
