We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to focus on direct user interaction and experience, for both content and chrome on Word Web. You’ll work with an experienced team of engineers across a breadth of technical problems: complex document layout, tuning browser performance, and high-level modern asynchronous collaboration experiences. You’ll work in a customer-focused, hypothesis-driven fashion with multiple partner teams across Office, leveraging both quantitative and qualitative data to ensure we’re building experiences customers need and love.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate ownership of features by taking the feature from proposal stage to shipping it to production in a secure manner.

Refactor existing code in a secure manner with high quality.

You will use data and experiments to inform decisions, validate conclusions, and debug issues.

Solve complex problems, including breaking them down into smaller manageable parts and executing the smaller parts efficiently.

You will write secure, reliable, scalable, accessible, performant and maintainable code, and effectively debug, test, and support it.

Demostrate continuous learning such as areas of code, features, etc., and share those learnings with others around you to grow the capacity of the entire team or apply those learnings in the project at hand.

Mentor others, including assistance navigating complexities or providing technical guidance.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, HTML, TypeScript, CSS, C, C++, C# or JavaScript.OR equivalent experience.Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Preferred Qualifications:Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, HTML, TypeScript, CSS, C, C++, C# or JavaScript.

OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, HTML, TypeScript, CSS, C, C++, C# or JavaScript.

OR equivalent experience.

4+ years of industry experience designing, developing, testing/debugging, and shipping software. 

2+ years experience with web technologies such as:HTML5 and JavaScript/TypeScript/ C#.

Experience working directly with performance optimization for Web applications 

Experience working in cross-team and cross-functional environments, demonstrating effective collaboration and communication skills to achieve shared goals.

Ability to demonstrate a growth mindset and adapt quickly by learning and applying new skills effectively.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
