Description
Principal Software Engineer - Windows in the Cloud TeamWindows 365 and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) have recently been recognized as a leader in the inaugural Gartner Magic Quadrant™ for Desktop as a Service (DaaS). We are seeing tremendous customer pull from on premise VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) customers that want to modernize and move from on prem VDI to the cloud. Windows 365 and AVD combined are already a billion-dollar business today and we are seeing rapid growth in revenue and usage, this is one of the key horizon 2 growth areas in Experience + Devices.
Our ambition does not stop at generating multi billion dollar revenue by moving on prem VDI customers to the Microsoft cloud. We are building a plan to move Windows clients to the cloud, we see a future that Windows is run from the cloud with unlimited yet flexible access to compute and storage. Microsoft took Office to the cloud and that became Office 365, Microsoft took Windows Server to the cloud and that became Azure, we are taking Windows to the cloud and that is Windows 365.
As a Principal Software Engineer on this team, you will help modernize how Windows Desktops and Applications are delivered to users remotely through the Remote Desktop Protocol to Windows and other operating systems. The team works in close collaboration with teams across Windows to help deliver the best of Windows on any device any where with like-local experience and redirections. As well as radically changing Windows to run better in cloud native environments.

You will help redesign core parts of Windows to run better in the cloudYou will work across organizations, collaborating with internal partner teams such as Microsoft 365, Windows, Microsoft Teams, and others.Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to Windows OS (operating systems) integration and client-side functionalities.Mentor other engineers
Qualifications
Required QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to C or C++OR equivalent experience4+ years experience working on Windows Internals such as: Windows UI (User Interface), COM (component Object Model) and ShellOther Requirements

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Preferred Qualifications
7+ years of experience as a software engineer/leader designing, implementing, and shipping cloud services or software products.Demonstrated experience in Windows Internals such as Windows UI, COM and ShellDemonstrated experience in distributed systems and graphics rendering.Demonstrated experience in Win32k subsystemSoftware Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
