Description
OverviewAre you interested in bringing AI-driven development tools to developers building some of Microsoft's most strategic products? On the Edge Engineering Systems team, you will develop the tools and processes that bring the promise of AI-first development productivity to developers working on the Edge browser and Copilot. On our team you will both use AI-driven development techniques and bring those techniques to the teams we support. As a Software Engineer in Engineering Systems, you will design, build and support modern cloud services. You will engage with a sophisticated development team and develop solutions that improve their productivity. This opportunity will allow you to work on modern services built on Azure, refine your debugging skills, and get first-hand experience using AI to develop solutions.

Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50- mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.
This role is targeting an immediate start date.
Responsibilities
Appropriates artificial intelligence tools and practices across the software development lifecycle in a disciplined manner.Contributes in partnership with appropriate internal stakeholders to understand customer/user requirements for a feature.Tests and explores various design options, outlining strengths and weaknesses of each option.Creates and implements code for a feature ensuring security and performance standards are met.Learns about and contributes to operations of live service as issues arise on a rotational, work-hours basis and identify solutions and mitigations to simple issues impacting performance or functionality of production services and escalates as necessary.Helps develop and contribute to automation within production and deployment of a product feature and run code in simulated or other non-production environments to confirm functionality and error-free runtime for products with oversight.Embody our culture and values.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.Proven experience contributing to a large-scale software engineering project.Reliable experience developing and troubleshooting cloud services.

Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $84,200 - $165,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $109,000 - $180,400 per year.
